I think I already know the answer to whether or not it is ok or bad and I feel like a ricer for asking; but, how bad is it to boost a car that is burning/losing oil.

I picked up a 97' dx about a month ago and want to get all the turbo stuff in and setup before I eventually put a built motor in.

anyways, lately I've noticed that I've been losing oil. I never really checked the oil until after I did the y8 intake manifold swap (which I did within a week or two of owning it). I got an oil change a week after I got it and they didn't say anything about the oil being low. I don't know wtf is going on. please help.

symptoms/clues...

losing about 1 quart per several hundred miles

black smoke under hard accel (I mostly notice it at the top of first)

gas milage around ~25 in city (obviously bad mpg+black smoke = running rich)

compression 210-188-190-205

no appearant leaking of oil (no drops or signs of major leak, driveway clean)

y8 intake swap (I paid a mechanic friend of mine, dont know if something there)

no blue smoke or smoking (that I can see from driver seat on start up, idle)


can a bad pcv/lack of pcv have a major effect like this?

Some motors will last, some will let go, roll the dice, take the gamble and have a spare motor on the side just in case. I wouldn't boost a lot on that motor thats for sure.

oil in the combustion chamber will lower the octane rating of your fuel, and leads to detonation.

just keep that in mind.

but if you arent seeing any blue out your tail you should be good to throw a few pounds at it :)

Bad valve seals, worn valve guides, clogged PCV valve, and bad piston rings are all causes of oil burning. Also bad seals around the spark plug tubes lets oil into where your spark plugs are...that may cause it.
