I was just fucking around w/ the B7 head I just took off my block and was wondering if I really need to keep the plastic piece on the end of the head by the Cam gear on. Just want to make sure removing it won't hurt anything.

why would you want to keep it off? The cover protects the cam gears from binding up from debris. And to protect the rubber timing belt from oils, coolant, etc.

OK, I guess I'll keep it on. I just wasn't sure about the exact purpose of it. Thanks for the info.

Look at 99% of the people with adjustable cam gears...do they have that plastic cover on? Nope. They dont.
