pics of my fried vitara pistons

Piston # 4

Piston # 3

Piston 1 and 2 are ok.

Any idea what could cause detonation, I know that "lean" was the key, but what causes lean conditions??

not enough fuel to cool combustion, too much ignition timing

lean conditions are caused by not enough fuel being injected...

detonation is a pressure induced event - the rising piston increased pressure which also increased heat to the flash point of the gas/air mix

pre-ignition is a heat induced event - an imperfection on the piston was glowing red hot which ignited your mix

both will melt/destroy pistons

who tuned your car?

can you post up your uberdata fuel/timing maps?

erw yeah 14.6 is fine for cruising at high speed low throttle = low load

but under a full load you need to be down in the 12's

welp, time to build it bigger and better!
