I have play on my passenger side front wheel. The driver side does not have the same play. grasping the tire at 3 and 9 oclock and moving the wheel in the direction of steering, causes a clunking sound. I've been reading about many people with similar problems pointing toward outer tie rod ends of the steering rack.

The outer tie rod did not have the play. I felt the rod in the steering rack move in and out when the movement is experienced at the tire. So i read for a while about replacing the steering rack end bushing.

Is that what this is? In and out play from the passenger side of the steering rack? Or is something else going on? I'd hate to replace the bushing and boots just to find there is a bigger problem and have to do it over again.

Control arm bushings look ok. the movement is felt in the rod coming from the passenger side of the steering reck. can I safely say that the inner tie rod is shot, or could it be that rack end bushing?
