Hi everyone, I just made it ovcer from the old board. Glad to see its still alive.

Here is the issue with my D16Y8, its starting to overheat. I know what your thinking, but I have checked all of the basics and all seems to be good. The engine overheats ever so often, not consistant which I find strange, if an engine overheats it shold do so fairly often if there is a mechanical problem, I would think...so I need some help if you can lend it.

I can tell you one thing that I think it may be, but I dont know how to check it. The fan. I dont know if I have ever noticed it being on. But how do you know if its not turning on? Is there a way to check this? Let me know if there is a way....thank you in advance.

i had a problem with my fans not coming on, so i hooked a switch up to em, so i just flip em on when i drive, keeps engine A LOT cooler, also check your thermostat, and head gasket.

Im trying to remember where it is exactly but I think there is a thermoswitch that turns the fan on. I think its by the thermostat housing. Wherever it is check that.

yea dont ignore it if the thermostat is bad.

sounds like it is not operating correctly.

you might as well check your hoses and do a full flush of the radiator while you're at it

The fan should turn on ever few minutes even at idle. If' it's not, then check the fan motor or the thermocoupling switch.

Is your coolant system pressurizing? (water over flowing out of resevoir)

Well the thromo is replaced and the old one looks fine. I took it out and it runs a bit cooler, but its still heating up. I let the car run for 20 minutes and no sign of a fan going on. I just know that the fan is the issue or the switch or both. Come to think of it, I have never noticed it being on or running from day one.

Next step, new fan and switch. Ill keep you all updated.

The fan is probably fine... you can easilly test it with a length of wire. Unplug the stock wiring from the fan, then run wire from each prong on the fan to each side of the battery. (directly connect tot he battery) It should turn on. That thermo switch thingie is usually what goes bad. I have a bad one on my car now infact As long as I keep moving the car stays cool... just can't sit still for more than a minute.

My civic is doing the same and I have replaced thermostat, cap, flushed and new hoses and it still continues to overheat unless im on the highway. I could use any info you have on this.

Again, I say this from experience. Maybe I wrong. Maybe Im not. Check the thermoswitch.

Looks like it might be the head gasket... Check the compression, and check fulids in car... Make sure there is no air in the coolant system.

I hope its not the gasket, it is or was metal. I have not heard of one blowing out yet. Not at 9.2 comp.

I found the switch online for about $26 online, but at my local honda dealer who helps me out gave me a price for the switch for around $35, I tend to keep to my dealer for the fact that they helped me out big time.

Not that I go to my dealer all the time, but for small parts that dont break the bank I keep it local. Support your local shops, when it makes sense, type of mind set.

Well the issue was the fan.
I changed the thermoswitch while I was at it.
No big deal other than the bleeding of the coolant.
That was a pain for some reason.
Bending over all that time I think I hurt my back.

rally25rs recommended that I check the fan by hard wireing
direct to the battery, which I did and it was not turning on. Replaced that motor and the fan works. I went ahead as I said and replaced the switch, that should be it for now.
