I am not going to be doing the swap myself, probably just have a mechanic do it, but I wanted to know ahead of time what I will need. I got the head of Ebay for $390 and I own a 97 DX Hatchback. I am hoping to add some horse power to the car with a Head Swap. I need to know if I need to get a new Computer and how much that will cost. Listed below is some of the work done to the head.....

93 honda civic SOHC VTEC cylinder head with all internals and stock head bolts. The head was hot tanked, resurfaced, a valve job, Milled 20,000th(for alittle higher compression) and the valves springs recalibrated all to stock specs. The cam inside is out of a 2000 CIVIC EX and has a 2000 EX manifold.

Also if you can list anything else that I will need I would be grateful.....

First off you will need a new ecu. P28 would be a good one. You will also need a conversion harness for the P28 ehich is OBD1.
On your 2000 ex y8 IM you will need to plug up the 4 small holes (one under each port). 2000 ex uses air injection manifolds. If you dont plug those 4 tiny holes you will have vac leaks. Use the 96-98 y8 IM gasket.
You ay also want to get an ARP head stud kit instead of using the stock head bolts.
Just my opinion. Im sure someone else out there might have a better choice as far as ECU.

You had better make sure you have the 2000 camgear as well, or the cam timing will be off by 1/2 a tooth, or about 4.75 degrees.

Cool thanks for the responses..... About how much will a P28 ECU cost and where can I get one?


It didn't come with a Camgear so I will look around town for one thanks.

Ive seen P28's go for about $65-$125 . Didnt know that about the difference in camgears on the ex. I can see someone having a bitch of a time trying to figure that one out. Good call.

Looks like you also need a vtec solenoid?

I don't know about 6th gens but on the 5th gens the dx and ex distributor were different.

I meant what kind of Civic/del Sol can I get the P28 from and yes I need a Solenoid. I don't know about the distributor. The guy I am going to have preform the swap had a 1996 DX HB and put a z6 head on it so I believe he will know what i need, I am just looking for other suggestions.....
