I have a big burly golden eagle one on my z6 head. I wouldn't exactly recommend any new fancy snowflake looking ones tho. I've seen them crack before.

Do not get a aftermarket adjustable cam gear if you don't know how to degree a camshaft.

If your running stock cam, a oem D16Z6 gear will be fine.

If your going aftermarket these are the one's that I would perches, in this order from favorite on.

1. Golden Eagle

2. AEM 3 bolt (not the 5 bolt)

3. Edelbrock (if you can find one)

4. Skunk 2

When you said the gear's messed up, please explain.

Every SOHC D series from 89 to 95 uses the same cam gear. It wont be hard to find one, somewhere.

Bring a box cutter and a 12mm to the junk yard, should take 5 mins to pull. Loosen the cam gear bolt first, then cut the belt. :)

I like OEM parts unless you just need an adjustable one.
