I'VE GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU D SERIES GEARHEADS. IVE GOT A 98 EX 2DR COUPE 5SP THAT HAS 143,OOO MILES ON IT. I GOT IT ONLY A YEAR AGO WITH 122,000 ON IT. IT RUNS OK. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS...IS IT WORTH IT TO BUILD THE OLD Y8 OR GET A NEWER ONE? IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET THE TIRED "D" TO HOLD 30PSI AFTER BUILDING. OR SHOULD I JUST GET A BUILT JG BLOCK? ANY IDEAS YOU GUYS HAVE ABOUT THE BUILD DON'T HOLD BACK. J

30 PSI is a lot to, but it can do it with a real good sleeve job. Good luck finding a turbo that will build that much boost without lagging till 7,000k.

IMHO if you are wanting to push that much boost into a D-Series, get the JG block. Everything will be done to it already at probably a similar ocst to what it would take to get the work done anyways.

THose goals don't seem realistic. If you have money to build a 30psi turbo setup and tune it, then you have money to get a better engine to start with.

Considering that d-series blocks are relatively inexpensive, you can always buy a spare block and build it on the side so that you don't have any downtime.

WELL KOMMON SENSE. IF YOUR TELLING ME TO FET A BETTER ENGINE I PRESSUME THAT YOU MEAN A DOHC. AND IF THAT IS WHAT YOU MEAN THEN YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY ON THE WRONG WEB-SITE. NOTICE THAT I SAID "WOULD" HANDLE 30 PSI, NOT NECESSARILY THAT IM GOING TO RUN 30 I WOULD JUST LIKE KNOWING THAT I CAN. I WILL PROBABLY BOOST AROUND 24 TO 26 PSI. ON RACE GAS. AROUND TOWN I WOULD ONLY RUN AROUND 10 TO 12. TO SOME YES THIS MAY SEEM UNREALISTIC BUT TO ME ITS DOING SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE SAY CAN'T BE DONE. NOW IM NOT ONE OF THOSE NEW GUYS WHO COME ON HERE AND POST STUPID QUESTIONS. I KNOW MY STUFF (ENGINES) i JUST THOUGHT THAT THERE WERE PEOPLE HERE THAT MAY HAVE TRIED TO BOOST THAT MUCH ON A USED BLOCK BEFORE. THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO MADE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS POST. I HAD FIGURED THAT I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO GO WITH THE JG BLOCK BUT THOUGHT I WOULD ASK. BUT THE POST IS STILL OPEN TO REPLIES IF ANYONE ELSE HAS AN OPINION. THANKS J

I HOPE THAT LITTLE COMMENT ABOUT THERE BEING NO STUPID QUESTION'S HELPED YOU THROUGH SCHOOL, AND THOSE LONG TRIPS HOME ON THE SHORT BUS. THERE IS AFTER ALL SUCH A THING CALLED A STUPID QUESTION. (EX. A QUESTION THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN ASKED AND ANSWERED. THIS IS A TECH FORUM NOT A CHAT ROOM WHERE YOU CAN VENT YOUR FRUSTRATION ON THE WORLD BECAUSE YOU ARE A MAMA'S BOY. IF YOU POST STUPID ENTRIES THIS IS WHAT YOU SHALL RECIEVE A THOROUGH BASHING FROM YOUR DADDY. NOW KEEP THE POSTS TECH ORIENTED. THANKS J.

i think u took his post wrong. the way i understood it was that he was trying to actually support you in saying that basically if u don't ask u won't learn so not to worry about asking "stupid" questions. gosh nowadays people are so hostile on message boards.

how would 30 psi mean lag? unless you're running a HUGE turbo it wouldn't lag that much. if you correctly size the turbo should have no problems spooling up that much boost and not being extremely laggy. one turbo, especially on our honda motors is more efficient and simpler than running twins as well.

meh, if you say so...I stay away from turbo's, so i should just stfu....carry on.

exactly. boost pressure doesn't directly translate to the need for a bigger/laggier turbo. now if you want to make high hp then u will definitely need a bigger turbo. and that bigger turbo will make more power @ the same boost level. the SIDE EFFECT of that is usually a laggier turbo because of bigger wheels to support bigger power. btw if u read that post i linked you would have seen that the AR fab d16 was running 30psi on a 50 trim T3/T04E and made about 400whp on that. He also mentioned they were hitting full boost by like 4800rpm or so.

hey guys, i want to apologize for my last couple of post's, i was having a bad day. :( i just finshed piecing together my turbo kit last week. here it is tell me what you think.

1.t3/t4 turbo (w/ revhard manifold)
2.vortech fmu
3.tial wastegate
(for pipes i used my intake pipe, and piping from home depo 2.5in.)
4.map sensor by-pass valve
5.greddy type s bov
6.sparco intercooler

its all on the car now and wow  !!!!!!! its a big imrovement over stock. i put the kit on with the stock setting of 7 psi(93 oct.)., but after a little tunning we pushed those old internals to holding 9psi(93oct). she's doing great!!! :D will have dyno numbers 12/19. So far i've beat 2 gsr's, and a ls with n2o (40 shot). Boost is good!!!!!!!! :D :D Can i still say that now that we're in a n/a forum. oh well.

Actually yeah, it does. As I'm sure you know, if you look at the compressor maps, you can see where a turbo is most efficient. Once you try to push too much boost on a given turbo, it is out of its efficiency range and starts heating up the charge to the point where it is useless to run more boost. The only way to push more air is to get a bigger turbo, this means a higher boost threshold (i.e. more lag).

So 30psi on a 50trim t3/t04e hitting full boost at 4800rpm isn't bad. However a smaller turbo could hit full boost at 2300rpm. Of course it wouldn't be able to push that much air efficiently.

Not trying to argue, I'm just bored...

Get rid of that fmu if you want your setup to last. 9psi is a lot on just an fmu. You really need to invest in some injectors, fpr, in-tank fuel pump and a vafc or other form of management.
