They’re pretty rare. It’s the North American version of the Ford Sierra XR4i, but produced in way lower numbers (I think there were about 30,000 of them made over a 5-year stretch). Has the 2.3 Turbo from the Mustang so you aren’t way off lol. A lot of the parts are interchangeable so it should be pretty easy to make decent power
Literally went to school with a chick that had an XR4Ti. We had no idea what it was. Probably something her parents got off of a used car lot. Had I only known, I would've loved to have it. We all thought it was weird looking and just a plain Jane POS. We had no idea it was a turbo car. Of course, that long ago, nobody really knew about turbo's. They were for big rigs and dump trucks with Diesel engines

I have a bunch of cousins who had the Ford Sierra XR4i growing up (Euro version of the same car except with the NA V6) so I always liked the Sierra and the Escort Cosworth. When I learned about the Merk, it was sort of like the impulse; if you can find a decent one, buy it.

I unironically went and looked at an Impulse the weekend before buying this. Low mileage and the seller said the body was rust-free. I guess she didn't think I'd look under the car lol (or she genuinely thought it was rust-free, idk), two giant holes in the floor.

Good thing you looked! Right?! When I went to buy my wagon, I looked at the rust spot I could see, then asked if I could pull the rocker trim off. After the guy saw the crater gone out of the rocker panel, he was far more accepting of my offer to buy it for less than half the asking.

The rockers aren’t great (it’s solid but ugly) but I wasn’t super concerned because I found replacements for $54 a side. The rest of the underside looks great so it wasn’t a huge deal. I plan on getting it resprayed at some point anyway so it’ll probably get done. Just fluids and belts before the snow hits then it goes to storage.

So, lots to cover I guess.

Sold the Merkur about a week after buying it because the fuel tank decided it didn’t want to hold fuel anymore, and it occurred to me how much shit it was going to need.

Sold the TSX on May 1st because I got way too much money for it. Not to mention it was going to need a timing chain soon and I didn’t care to do it - not to mention it wasn’t really that fun to drive

Fastforward to May 6th, I picked up a poor man’s S2K. Was looking for some cheap beater when this popped up. 144k km, a few cosmetic pieces, and Subaru/Toyota’s version of Flashpro. Not mint because it was daily driven, but it’s in good shape
