well this dang motor (d16z6) was suppose to be back together by now. ran into a little issue with the bearings at this point, and yes i have been up and down here and other forums looking for the answer. here is how this plays out.

took the block, rods and crank down to the machine shop to have the block bored and the mains measured. the crank balanced, micropolished and measured. the rods had arps installed, no re size was needed, balanced and measured.

well took the measurements, i was given (i was there for half so yes they where done right) and calculated the bearings i needed with desired clearances.

here is what i got using this formula

BC = IDBT – ODC – (2 x BT)

BC = bearing clearance
IDBT = inside diameter of bearing tunnel (housing bore)
ODC = outside diameter of crank journal
BT = bearing thickness

Main Bore---Crank journal----bearings-------------clearance-----plastigauge
1-2.3230-----2.1643----------0.0788”- 0.0787”----.0011~12"----.002"
2-2.3225-----2.1642----------0.0785”- 0.0783”----.0013~14"----.003"
3-2.3225-----2.1641----------0.0785”- 0.0783”----.0013~14"----.003"

after the dang reading with the plastiguage took the block back down to the machine shop and had them recheck the mains with the bearing in and here is what they got for oil clearances
1 (.0022")
2 (.003")
3 (.003")
4 (.0027")
5 (.0026")

i doubled checked my math the machinist looked over the math and it was fine. so what is up with all this? is the formula flawed or is the use of plastiguage flawed. both the platigauge and the machinist checking the clearances are about double the calculated clearance

i came up with a few ideas of why but i need a solid answer before i slap this together (couple of days late already) and preferred not to get flamed for thinking outside the box.

i dont have the tools at the time, so i/we assumed that the thicknesses where accurate or close giving that laskey racing has them published, and the info is posted on here. the variance is far to great, it's about .0005" on each bearing half.
