Hey guys,

I sort of know what's needed to build a d16y8 mini-me swap, but as for the electrical stuff, what do i need? Because i have a 99 hb, now that people are telling me different stuff about what i need and not need because it wont fit or run right, i figured that i'd come to u guys...well since my hb is a 99, what would i need to complete a mini-me swap?

At least a complete Y8 head and p2p ECU. I think that's the ECU code for the 96-00 EX's...

There's more but that's the 2 major and obvious things. I've only dealt with OBD-0/1 H's.

ARP headstuds unless you want prob well within 10k. The y8 mani flows better than the y7. Also I've heard conflicting reports on wether a Vtec FPR is different from non Vtec, injectors are all 240cc. I used a Vtec FPR on my B7/Z6.

Y7 injectors are the oddball @ 190cc not 240.. SO yeah you can use them but if you want just get some 240's out of any other civic 92-00 GL!

get you a Y8 complete head..the wiring harness from it and ECU, for plug and play. Also you would want to get the Y8 HG/Timing belt and replace the water pump while you have everything apart....

Best of luck to you and let us know how the build goes...

I think you're asking specifically about the electrical wiring of doing a mini-me. This typically involves the ECU, VTEC solenoid, knock sensor, and IACV valve (maybe more but I can't think of it of the top of my head). Search around and you will find the specifics spelled out. But be careful about implementing the advice that is presented on these forums without verifying the imformation. I'm in the process of doing a mini-me on a 97 hatch so I have some familiarity there. You'll find that you'll get advice based on people's specific experiences. For example, the Y8 timing belt is NOT required for my mini-me. I know this because I verified the timing belt part numbers on http://www.slhondaparts.com/. Also, get your hands on the Helms manual for your 99 HB. My 96-97 Helms manual has all the pin-outs and diagrams for the EX as well as the DX so I can verify things that way.

Good Luck.

Here's my take... since I've done this myself.

You want a complete Y8 head and intake manifold from a 5-speed. This includes injectors, fuel rail, IACV, and throttle body. The Y7 tb rotor is different and won't work.

Your Y7 timing belt is the same as a Y8 - but replace if it hasn't been replaced recently.

Your distributor is fine, don't worry about that.

Don't an EX wiring harness, it is a waste of money. You only need to add 2 wires, and it is really simple. VTEC and VTEC pressure switch.

You do want a 99-00 OBD2 P2P ECU, this is key.

Your stock exhaust manifold is fine for now - if you want to use a Y8/header, you need a B-pipe and cat from a Y8 as well.

Definitely use a y8 headgasket, but if I remember correctly, it is exactly the same as a Y7 gasket.

If you can afford it, I'd go for the ARP headstuds (I did) - the compression is almost .5 higher on the mini-me than the Y8 alone. You don't want to blow hgs. Resurface the head while it is out also.

That's all I can think of for now.

If you have z6 head (with y7/z6 mini-me) but p2p ecu on y7 harness, you don't have pressure switch, only selenoid.... How we fix everything ???

I don't have any knock sensor, and don't want to fuck with it !! Can I jump some wire between them to simulate it or something like that ?

thank you

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the IACV valve thing. Everything is straight forward but I think he is stuck in the IACV valve. I told him that the mini mi will be straight forward but I wasn't sure how to wire the dx IACV to work with the EX IACV. Since you have to convert the 3 wires to 2 wires or something like that. Right team phatboyz?

shifty,

Can you comment on what you did regarding the knock sensor. Doesn't the ECU expect that signal? Also, forgive for not being more specific, but I believe you need to swap a couple of pins and remove (or cut) another from the ECU connector.
Crap, I forgot that. Yes, you need a knock sensor. The pin removal/move is for the 3 wire-2 wire IACV conversion, this is quite well documented.

I used the extra wire from the IACV for my knock sensor and pinned in two more wires for the VTEC spool valve and VTEC pressure sensor. I didn't mention this because the request was for a 99... on your 97 (like mine) if you use a P2P ECU you will have a persistent code 91 for the fuel pressure tank sensor, as the 96-98 doesn't have one. The solution I used was to get an OBD2 P28 (96-97 Del Sol SI, D16Y8) as the 96-97 Del Sol SI doesn't have the pressure sensor either. I verified this looking at the fuel tank schematics from Honda.

Yeah, it's a long road... a key concern of mine was preserving OBD2 emissions compliance, which I can happily report I did.

I passed the OBD2 port scan with my Y7/Y8 mini-me using an OBD2 P28 back in November.

If I got p2p obd2b ecu, I need to wire knock sensor and vtec pressure sensor ( If i remember it doesn'T have cel for that but does vtec will work anyway ?) ... If I don'T have it, I need to swap ecu ? I don't want to buy conversion harness and everything !!

For the knock sensor, can I fix it buy putting resistor at ground and pin location ?

For the fuel pressure tank sensor ? Does my '99 LX have one ?

Everything sound more complicated than I hope....

Yeah, after I posted I thought you might have omitted it because we're talking about a '99. Like I said, I only researched the '97. I've got some links at home that discuss the wiring aspect to death that I'll post up later and hopefully that'll help someone.

Yeah it will help, but not for my setup :(

It'S about the vtec pressure switch that my z6 head doesn't have and my p2p ecu has...

thank you
