Hey

I am about to buy a Magnaflow (14818) muffler. Its for the sport compacts and they say it not loud, just nice and deep which is what I am looking for. Its a oval 5X8in not a regular round straight thru exhaust. I currently have a OBX Peice of sh*t and it sounds horrible.

Does anybody have any experience with the Magnaflow mufflers spor compact series and how do they really sound????

Thanks

I just called magnaflow to talk to their tech folks about options for quieting my current setup. I found out that I *already* have a street series muffler. I thought that it was one of their race series... If I have a street, then I would hate to hear a race

According to the info on magnaflow's site, the oval street should sound the same as the round street. So based on that, I'd say that the muffler that you are looking at is gonna be too freakin' loud for a daily driver.

Now I'm debating selling my current setup on ebay and going back to stock until I can find something that I like, or attempt to fix my current setup with an additional resonator...

toddnos... I don't know what is up with SHO... Seems like it is busted every other week now-a-days. Oh well, I spend most of my time at honda-tech anyways. Probably gonna be around here more often as well.

yeah... it seems that the d-series folk tend to stick together... i think i've seen a couple of guys over on alternativehonda.com also...

i dont know if i like h-t too much... the threads scroll off screen too fast on all of the forums... but you definitely get an answer a LOT faster. and there is a lot less BS to put up with.. i guess it's a give-and-take sort of affair...
i still miss my SHO though.

You are right, the sound is very deep. Sounds good at low rpm and high rpm, but has a very annoying drone to it in the midrange, around 3-4.5krpm. It also gets quite loud when you accelerate, and I mean just accelerate, not trying to get down on it. For example, when I am driving to work, I hit flat stretches, go down hill and small inclines. while driving around 75mph (I can't drive 80mph anymore because the exhaust is too loud) on flat stretches, it is ok, on a decline, it is very quiet, but if I hit an incline, it gets loud. So any load on the engine makes this thing get loud.

Yes, I do have one of their round street series mufflers, but according to magnaflow, their round and oval exhausts sound the same. So I am assuming that all streetseries will sound this way.

Howwwwwwwwwl!!! Yo dogs. what up. Good to see you guys. So what would be a good muffler to use that isnt too loud. I've got a hi-flow cat on the way and while I'm waiting on headers I need to start looking at mufflers.
You can buy my magnaflow cat-back. Only used for one week :) You know that I'm a legit seller and I will cut you a deall :) Some people have been very happy with the ES Oval which is a straight through. I think that the first thing that you want to ask yourself is if you want a straight through or chambered exhaust. Straight through will perform better on the top end but will be MUCH louder than a chambered exhaust. Chambered will perform better in the low end and possibly midrange, but won't do as well on top-end as the straight through, but it will be very quiet.

performance wise :
low end --- chambered > straight-through
midrange --- chambered = straight-through
high-end --- chambered < straight-through

Also, if you don't go with a full catback, then be sure to get a good resonator to go with your setup.

Hey Kommon_sense good to see you on this site. Thanks for the info. Which model# is yours? I just bought a Random Tech. High flow cat from Klungemonger off SHO. He said it was new and it should be here soon. He sold it to me for cheap $47.00 . There expensive brand new from a store. I'e heard mixed reviews on them. I wanted a carsound cat but this one floated my way and I took it. How much are you asking for yours just out of curiosity.

I have a full cat-back. Part #15646. You can find more info on it here : http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/cat-backs/honda.htm . I'm thinking between $200-$215 shipped for a 1-week old setup.

I have a Magnaflow Oval muffler on my 2.25" catback and it sounds NIIIICE. One of the best I have heard (probably some bias in there tho :p ) Its barely there at idle, but when you open it up its nice and deeep. I have a 22" resonator which takes the tinny note out of it, and quiets it down some too. Big 2 thumbs up for it.

Yo dog.........im a fan of the "test pipe"..........cheaper/more power than
a "high flow cat"........which is still plugging up the exhaust flow.........But i understand not everyone is a rebel like me :)

Honestly.....the stock cat is fine! What is 1-2 whp increase when you have to breathe exhaust fumes in the cockpit all day?
