All this talk about det cans and knock sensors got me thinking.

How about using one of these (or something like it) on my 91 hatch that didn't come with one.

to power an led indicator light or a gauge of some kind. This would give me a visual indication of knock and be easier to deal with over the engine noise. I can figure out the circuitry easy enough as these sensors output an analog 0-5v signal.

Any thoughts?

either my laptop is acting up or something is wrong with you link.
moving on tho.
That sensor will do you know good unless you understand knock and how the sensor reads it.
I remember a post long ago where AEM took a stock civic and made a chart of knock voltage to den.
Its basically a limit chart.
1k rpm the volts should be under x voltage
2k etc...
i believe the highest voltage was 2.8v at redline.

either way you would have to tune the knock senor so you would know when its knocking and when its not.
SO in other words you need to dent can before you can install this and have it working.

you crazy bastard. Wiring in a knock sensor to yank timing automatically? would be crazy cool for your project

I've thought about it, but it would require tuning per vehicle, engine, and where it's placed, but I could......
