I have been looking around here and other sites. I am finding a large portion of inter cooler installs that either have the bumper cover cut badly or the bumper support gone. Is there any one here who has installed an intercooler without making the car a prepared class monster? Mind posting pictures?

*edit* I am curious about the 88-91 Civics...

I forgot to clarify, you cannot modify the bumper in SM rules. I thought of channeling the bumper but the rules = no go.

This.
Can't have a huge inter cooler and expect to keep the bumper and support intact
I do not need that much inter cooler. Just enough for around 200-250ish HP. I have the intercooler and its much smaller that the del slo above. Just looking for what other people have done.

I have one question, is it important that you use some rubber between the intercooler and the car?
Here is my intercooler without rubber:

Insulating the mounts would definitely help longevity of the inter cooler. What you posted there is a cake walk compared to an old civic. You could fit at least one dead body behind that bumper and intercooler.

Really? I didn't know this, lol, have to thumb through the rule-book again. I'm in the same boat, I have a CRX in SMF and am adding turbo stuffs this off season. I got a small IC from ebay, like a 28x5.5x2.5. You can use an HF bumper support (or cut your support) and maaaay have to modify/remove the support piece of the hood latch piece. Will have to remove the center piece the bumper cover bolts to from the bumper support.

I haven't test-fitted my bumper cover yet, but will soon. It looks like I can clear (with the HF support) without trimming the bumper cover.

2011 SCCA SOLO rulebook seems to allow modification of front bumper.

16.1.I
Front hoods (engine covers), engine covers, trunk lids and hatches
not containing glass, front fenders, rear fenders not part of chassis
structure (unibody), front & rear facias, and side skirts may be modified
or replaced
, and may be attached with removable fasteners.
Associated hardware including latches, hinges, and window washer
nozzles may be modified, removed, or replaced. This does not permit
removal of the remainder of the window washer system. Fenders
may be flared as per Street Prepared. Non-metallic fender liners may
be modified, replaced, or removed.

SP 15.2A said:
Replacement of
complete hood, flared fenders, or quarter panels is prohibited.
Also talks about clearancing for tires/wheels but thats its only purpose.

further down, the other allowed body mod:

SP 15.2C said:
Additional holes may be drilled for mounting bolts. Interior trim panels
may be modified to allow installation of strut bars. Holes or slots
may be no larger than necessary and may serve no other purpose.
This does not permit any modifications to the frame or unibody beyond
the allowed mounting holes.
I'd post all of A but its kind of wordy.

Thats SP Bodywork.

It doesn't appear like you can modify any part of the unibody in SM.
