I know a guy that is selling d16y8 engine for really cheap and he says theres bottom end noise. Can you tell me all the possabilities of what needs to be replaced. I never rebuilt an engine so i want to know if its worth to buy killed engines. I know piston and rods are a must but what else?
thanks

expect to tear it down as soon as you get it, hope the crank is good... if not you can pick one up for around 100 bucks... get new rod and main bearings, water pump, shim the oil pump so it doesnt do it again, new head gasket and timing belt, about 200-250 youll have a rebuild motor... also get new rings

One quick way to find out is to take off the oil pan and turn the motor so you get a look at all the rods and rod ends... they should be brass or silver colored... if one is BLACK... its the spun bearing.

And in general, when someone says "it ran, but there was a bottom end noise" or "so-and-so said it ran when he pulled it" that means the motor is ruined, and worth about $100 tops.
