I am wanting to rebuild my d16y8

I have a d16y8 that has a bad oil pump. There is metal shavings in the oil and if I drop the oil pan and see that nothing has gotten to the crank I plan on fully building the internals with a turbo. I want to try and push about 15psi. This is my first rebuild and I am just looking for any tips or advice and if it’s even worth a shot. I have some extra money to spend so I figured, why not.

Save all the cussing/moaning on your back, and get the engine out of the car, and on a stand.
Metal shavings are likely from your bearings, aka likely not something you can fix without tearing down the bottom-end.

Money is good, you'll need it. Save some more and set it aside in addition, because you'll need it too.

Research, research. and research for the engine build.Lots of options for Rods and pistons, choose what you need for ~300-350 whp goal.

1. Get the rebuild done, back in the car, broken in, and properly running (on the stock ECU/management).
2. Convert to OBD1, get a solid tune ironed out.
3. Plan/build your Turbo set up.

-Psi is meaningless (at this point).
a. Set a power number goal, and more importantly 'where' you want the power to suit your application.
b. Research, research. and research (Which turbo style/size will achieve your goal).

Gonna point you to my build thread to see what it took me to get to 370whp in my D. Not a short read.

Mind you I did a whole lot to the rest of the car as well, but you'll see the blood, sweat and tears that went into getting the engine to take 300-320whp on a road course lol.

On the street it would probably live forever the way I had it at the end, but track duty is hard.
