t'was thinking, how does one go about getting their tranny set-up to haul ass in higher gears...i.e. hp, long gearing, short gearing....etc.

downshift

higher gears are for cruising and getting good mileage, not "hauling ass".

i know atleast that much. i was thinking of the 1/4 run bisi had with another car. it was posted somewhere on here. -showed the other car taking bisi in 1rst and 2nd but 3rd and 4rth bisi annihilates him.

traction, driver sleeping at the tree, gearing, HP.

If you've ever seen a LS1/2/6 GM at the track and how they pull in 4th gear, Bisi's does the same.

link to the vid your referring too.....

bad link.

Shorter gears = more acceleration, less speed.

Bisi's Houseman "Black Box" is running stock Integra 1-5 with a Houseman 5.0 FD but he's also running 27-28" tall slicks.

You ever ask yourself how Einstein figured out his theorys? What about S. Hawking and black holes?

I'm no where near their level of theoricital physics, but I do understand mechanical gear reduction and the torque multiplication from it. It's just math to me, and I was the asshole NERD in math class that blurted out answers without showing their work. I'm no savant, not even close. I wish I had more areas to test my "guesses".....

Some of my ideas have produced results, but others on the team had the same idea on the same car. 740CID BBC and 600-1000 hp shot of nitrous best was 6.99 @ 212 mph with 4.56 gear. Owner wanted a 4.30 gear, I suggested along with others 4.10 gear. He wasn't happy but did listen (FOR ONCE!).....

6.81 @ 221 mph was the result

First, the gear soften the launch, allowed the slicks to bite without unloading (wheelhop/tire shake) but once in high gear, the motor was loaded and HAULED ASS from the 1/8 out the big end. car did exactly ehat I and others thought it would do, the driver retired the car, a 1990 Pro-Stock chassis.

I see gears/gearing in a different way than most people, I can't explain it, I just do! Matching the gear spread to the motor....I just know the numbers needed.

Yet I don't have the patience cylinder head porters have, making each port to flow the same.

i think i get it!!!!! muahahahaha. with low hp one would wanna get shorter gears and vice versa. and then there is the configuration of the final drive to the size of the tires to get "hauling-ass" in the top/short end you want to.

I think I've got it, it's why a taller powerglide and short final works behind a lot of power. I've never quite understood it, but it makes more sense now.
