I pulled the pan on my replacement d16y8 today, one rod had a little slack so I pulled the rod cap to check the bearings. I plan on going ahead and replacing all rod bearings since the pan is off. Crank, rod and rod cap are all still smooth. Should I slap them in or do a little 800 grit buff job or should I use a higher grit?

I see some scoring and what looks like pitting on the bearings. I also see some rust on the cap.

You already have it apart that far why not just clean up the caps replace the bearings and move on.

That’s what I plan on doing, just wondering if I need to hit them with sandpaper if they are smooth?
