How accurate a basemaps?

I guess Im wondering how close can a tuner really get with a basemap for a turbo application? I wondering since I plan on going to phearable.net for a p28 chipped w/ CROME. I hoping that the basemap they come up w/ will be good for a few months of driving on 6lbs. of boost. Any experiences with this supplier? Horror stories about basemaps?

basemaps are usually pretty good, there are guys that have been runnning them for months.
Would you consider a basemap on CROME a healthier tune then a dyno tune on a S-AFC?

if you already have the AFC you could get the p28 chipped and run the basemap and if you have a wideband try to tweak it wit the afc a lil to get a better a/f ratio. not 100 percent sure someone correct me if wrong
i whould use the basemap only to drive yourself to a tuner. and i mean drive it easy. every car is differant from the compression ratio, the injectors, to the amount of air being shoved into it by the turbo being used. so basemaps are very scetchy. whould you use a tune from someone else's car dailey? i whouldnt.
I wouldn't drive it much on a basemap. It's good enough to get you to the tuner!! Unless you want to go boom!!!

:werd: I wouldn't hit boost on a basemap w/o datalogging... Street-tuning isn't expensive; so why risk your motor?
So if a basemap is made for car and it's turbo and your setup why would driving on one bad?
a basemap is really just used to run the bigger injectors on your car. i wouldn't even touch boost without a proper tune.

proper tune > boom!
i wouldnt never drive hard on a basemap. use it to get to your tuner and thats it

because a basemap is just a guess, not all motors run the exact same...

example: i got my car street tuned w/ 450's, now i'm upgrading to 750's... i have a re-scaled map for the new injectors, but a quick datalogging session is still needed becuase you never know EXACTLY how the motor will react...

that's a good way to look at it.
basemaps are just that...a base. and if i may suggest something....i personally would go through xenocron.com to get a basemap and ecu supplies....i have met chris and talked with him severel times and be a tuner myself, i know the man knows his sh1t. he can hook you up with a basemap that will be alot safer than most others. knowledge and experience play a big role here...espescially when your tuning blind...thats what a basemap is.

find someone in your area that knows crome, has a wideband, and has the equipment to burn you a new chip, and give them 30 bucks to check out your a/f's under boost and you will be set until you can get it street tuned by a reputable tuner.
my only problem is I don't know anybody that will tune my civic here in NM that will use turbo edit or crome
do you have a local forum in NM? i would check around there for someone...if not check out xenocron.com and pgmfi.org and the engine managment section on homemadeturbo.com and start learning to do it yourself!!! thats what i did :D i am still one of two guys in all of southern idaho that tune chipped hondas, i make ok side money and learn new things all the time...if you had a chip burner i have a grip of maps i could send you.....

good advice........
I ran on a basemap for about 3 months until I was tuned, didnt have one problem at all...
After 5speed4life got the car up and running on a basemap, my brother and I downloaded a .bin off of pgmfi.org from a setup that was almost identical to ours (750cc injectors vs our 756cc, everything else is the same). Works like a charm so far. Car runs really good.

I would eventually like to take the car to a tuner and get him to tweak it though. I'm sure there's some little differences here and there.
