Hose Identification and Overheating

Today my car started overheating on the commute to work. The temp needle was about 4/5ths of the way up where it usually sits a little under half way.

When I got to work I noticed it smoking. Take a look at the pic below - it looks like it is leaking out of that hose. That also looked like where it was smoking. What does this hose do?

More info - all the hoses looked like they were connected fine. My radiator/reservoir were empty so I refilled it with some 50/50 anti-freeze.

I recently got my clutch replaced (day after Christmas). I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.

One more issue - my check engine light has been coming on. I don't recall if this has been coming on before or after the clutch job, but it started really close to when my clutch was changed. It looks like it is for the o2 sensor and the fuel injector (the ECU flashes one flash two times in a row followed by 16 consecutive flashes). I checked the o2 sensor and noticed the white wire leading to the o2 sensor was cut and the two ends of wire were just stripped and twisted together and exposed.

Since this issue my car has been getting about 10 mpg less than normal.

I'm only asking about the overheating issue but thought I should share all that is happening with the car.

I almost forgot - it's a 1990 Civic Hatchback DX, 4spd Canadian model.

Replace that little hose. It holds coolant. That hose has been leaking out all your coolant. Hopefully you didnt blow the head gasket by running it so hot.

Solder the O2 wire, this affects your mileage.

Any explanation as to what that hose does? I'm trying to get a better idea of what everything is and does. Even with my Haynes manual I can only make so much sense of it all.

And is there anything special about replacing that little section of rubber hose? Or just pop it off and put a new one on? I'm guessing some coolant will leak out.

Thanks for the help!
it heats the metal tube the also connects the vavle cover to the intake, heating the air that enters the crankcase?.
Buying Hoses

One last noob question regarding this issue - what do I ask for when getting the new hose? I don't know anything about hoses. Is there a certain diameter/thickness/etc. I need to ask for? Does it need to be a hose specific to the cooling system?
goto advanced and just get some i wana say 3/8 iirc hose and your set

That little hose is for fiacv.
That little hose is for fiacv.
So does coolant flow through that hose or does the fiacv have anything to do with losing coolant?

Yes coolant flows though that line.
It's for fast idle air control valve. Basic use to keep the Rpm high while cold.
If that line is messed up it will leak out all your cobalt and can cause the car to over heat.
I'd replace that hose, then fill and bleed the coolant systems.
