Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket Problem

2316 Views 22 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Levi
Tonight I was looking at my intake manifold gasket on my motor and I noticed it is really warped. The center section was a little warped before but not like this. Between the 1 and 2 intake runners it is warped also. I tightened all the bolts in proper sequence and torqued them to spec any time I have messed with it. I have had the gasket for about 2 years though. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue. If so, let me know. Thinking about going back to an oem intake mani gasket.

hmm never had a prob with mine(though the Pro-Fab). did you square the gasket as best you can before you put it on? looks like the #1 runner is way right of the runner:beer:
hmmmm never heard of any problems with them..... before this
when the car is running, spray some eather in the engine bay.. if it revs, then you know its a problem, if not, i wouldent wory too much.
if you dont have a vacuum leak, i wouldnt worry

i have a knockoff and havent had an issue yet...
Yours looks a bit more warped than mine, but not by much. I do have the curve between #2 and 3.

If I get a chance tomorrow after work, I'll snap a pic.

I was thinking of getting a thermak gasket for my D16, but now I'm a little afraid.

Has anyone else had issues?
What brand are you using?
Is there a noticable difference between thermal and OEM gaskets?
Ive got a knock on and the only problem Ive had is when the gasket was for all D-series the guy who put the SOB on didnt notice that he blocked the coolant flow, so my motor ran hot, warpped the head all that good stuff, but once we got the hole cut out, no prob.
Just as long as it seals around where it needs to be you'll be fine... Check for leaks as prescribed above and you'll be fine.
i bought mine used and had it for several years and on several motors. i have had no problems with mine. i agree with ryan89crx. if it is not leaking, dont worry about it.

I have one doest look that but it is a little bit warpy on my third runner but it isnt leaking so im not worring about it.
mine looks the same way (hondata brand) mine sealed and no leaks so its good to go. its just warped from head and not having to surfaces to be sandwhitched in between. dont worry about it
Well I will still be replacing this with an oem one this week. I meant to do it last week, but the parts were delayed because fedex is run by a bunch of morons.
A bit too late, since you're replacing, but here's a pic of mine on the JRSC:

thats how mine looked the whole time i had it on the car when i had the jrsc on there. now it has warped between the 1 and 2 runners. I still havent gotten around to replacing it yet, I have a side project lined up for it while I have the intake mani off.
I ordered one for my JRSC but the guys that installed it said they couldnt use it because it was too thick and they couldnt get the bolts on the manifold studs. Did you guys expereince any problems installing yours? Aside from the warping, do you recommend the gasket for SC? My charger gets pretty hot, im sure it still would even with this gasket, but id atlest expect it to be a little cooler.

when i installed it back when i had the jrsc on the car, there wasnt a whole lot of threads for the nuts to grab compared to the stock intake mani. i did manage to get it on there with no real issues. the charger remained pretty cool with it on there. i unfortunately didnt have an oem intake mani gasket on before i put the charger on so there is no real information for me to compare. it did manage to stay pretty damn cool though.
The guys who installed mine also had an issue getting enough thread grab with the studs, so they replaced it with bolts and torqued them down. I brought it back to have it checked at 500mi, and they're holding down tight.

Only other issue was that I had the Denso alternator (w/o the 90deg rotatable power lead attachment point), and the gasket make the clearance between the charger and alt too close. I needed to replace the alt anyways, so they swapped it with a Mitsu style, rotated the lead, and it fits fine.

Both mechs mentioned that despite those issues, the gasket was a great idea. After parking, I've noted that the charger temp is significantly lower than the block.

I don't think the warpage between #2&3 is of concern, just a function of gasket compression.

Glad I got it. Now I just need to save up for that Hondata S300 preprog ECU. ;)

They replace the studs on the engine's head?
I'm planning on putting this gasket on. It is 4mm thick! So I want to check that I can put back the nuts.

I didnt have to replace the studs on mine when I originally installed it.
