I saw a HONDA radio/cassette player at a 2nd hand shop, $15.00 ( was $20 )
It's KENWOOD, ( clean condition ).

On the front face is has "anti theft".

My question is,
does this mean even if it's plug and wired up, I will need a
PIN identifiable via VIN of the vehicle it came out of ?

I won't post pictures yet, if it need a PIN

( has CD mode, but would have used an external CD rack.

Numbers on back sticker are:

KENWOOD 08A01-465-260
CASSETTE RECEIVER VX-496AR

KENWOOD CORPORATION 04480

No other history of what model HONDA it came from

Probably. You would need the serial number off the radio (not the VIN) to get the code.

Could always try calling Honda locally to see if they would be of any help there.
I do know the Acura RL I had once you had to enter a PIN even if the car battery was replaced but the sticker was missing from the glove box. So I just would enter random numbers till I got it to work I think it was something simple like 0000,1111, or 1234.
I know my wife's Odyssey had the same setup and the generic pin would unlock it also.

Could the anti-theft be something as simple as a removable fascia?
No, nothing is removable.
The anti-theft on this, ( and others I have had ) is PIN.

But, there is another part/s missing, the female plugs from the loom.
Will be a tour to the wreckers with the device to see if I can spot something.
Usually some audio systems are hacked out and the loom intact.

pics coming soon

I've found them online and called dealers to get the codes as well.
I have a pile of old Honda decks that I need to unload. I'm sure someone can use them.
