I have a '95 EG coupe with a JDM D15B VTEC motor in it, it's got a p28 ECU I took it apart and it looks stock. I've been restoring the car and I just got it running. If I ease into the throttle I can rev it out to 7K I didn't try to go any further. Although if I go straight to wide open throttle it will bounce off around 3,600 RPM, I haven't tried this while moving but I thought it was weird I figured it would at least go to up around 6K.

Does it have one vtec solenoid or two on the back of the head?


Did you verify mechanical timing was spot on? (check camgear at TDC)

Is the ignition system healthy?

It has one solenoid
It runs great drives and revs out no problem.
Timing is right.
This is only at a stand still at idle
If I go WOT it will bounce of a limiter around 3500-3600
I just thought this was weird for a stock computer.
I checked the ecu it looks stock even has the blue check marks on all the components.
I can't find wether not they made ecus with a stock limiter this low. It's like a launch control
I have no problem in gear movin revin out to 7k

Nothing to worry about unless the engine is already fully warmed up.

Take a picture of the main chip and its solder joints and post. Likely it has been flashed at some point if it behaves like this even fully warmed up.
