This is my first start after rebuilding the engine (y8 head, z6 block, p29 pistons), I know its not the best combo, but its what I had to my disposal. There are a couple things that I noticed are wrong.

1) Something is up with the IACV making it suck a lot of air. Engine hesitates with a little throttle and almost dies when going back to idle
2) High idle? My tach doesn't work and I haven't wired up my other tach yet.
3) Oil leak from pump...awesome.
4) A knock of some sort. It doesn't sound good to me, but I could also be over exaggerating

I wasn't actually pointing my camera at anything specific, just trying to get good audio. Oh yeah, the smoke is from the stupid header paint.

I have my Bose set up so I can actually hear shit in good quality now.

Idle sounds good. I do hear what you're talking about. I had the same
issue a few months back. Sounded just like that. My alternator was
tapping against a bracket and making that exact sound. I thought it
was a knock for sure until I put my hand on the alternator and leaned
on it a little. Try pushing down on your alternator and/or the surrounding
parts in the bay just to make sure. I was relieved.

No tuning, I just wanted to do the start up, I had no intentions of driving it around. I did turn the dizzy to the radiator, use 2 step colder plugs (bkr7e), and it has 91oct. I was going to start it again tomorrow morning to pull the codes, I know one is bad vtec noid. When I first put the head on, the valve lash was so tight the engine wouldnt idle, couldnt even fit .006. While cranking though code 20&22 popped up. Havent checked since.

I also cant get any tuning done till I fix the leaky oil pump and Sleepersedan was going to give me a hand with the tuning.

I was worried about the slight knocking noise heard at the end of the video though.

I will definitely try that! lol. Thanks man, its been a long 4 months and I still have good amount of work ahead of me.

Dude, it was a couple days of torture. I had the stethoscope out and I was
putting it everywhere on the block and head but couldn't find shit. I could
hear it..but it was less distinct when I had the stethoscope on than with
the naked ear. It was a fluke that I leaned on it. Then proceeded to call
myself a dumb ass for about 45 minutes. :D

Take your time, man. Rush jobs always turn out with the same results -
a non-running car and an empty wallet.

I know, I'm not going to drive it, I had no intentions. I just needed to see if it would run? I'm going to have to start it one more time so I can pull the codes and then replace the oil pump. After that I'm going to get it tuned/broken in.

Well I pulled the codes I was getting and I got 2&22. I just replaced my o2 sensor and now its bad? I'm going to have to see if I some how switched the plug on it, but I do have it connected. And 22 is vtec solenoid pressure, so I think I just need to replace the solenoid.
