Heat wrap is some great stuff. I wrapped my turbo manifold with it and used that silicone based paint. Worked wonders.
yup when I did it on my header I could touch the primaries when the car was runing. w/o the wrap and paint I wouldnt have fingerprintsHeat wrap is some great stuff. I wrapped my turbo manifold with it and used that silicone based paint. Worked wonders.
prior to getting my fake j intake had the dei intake kit on my intake pipingi have an aem sri on my z6 and want 2 paint it (that shiny chrome look is just too blingtastic) and want to try and keep it from heatsoaking.....would i be better off using dupli-color engine enamel with ceramic?(used on vc, still have can) or krylon bbq&stove paint (used on headlights, still have can)....i know they both withstand heat but which one would help keep heat out of my intake?...t.i.a
Painting your intake pipe Black ...will only increase the temp of your intake pipe.im gonna use the bbq paint b/c its flat black and the engine enamel is red....just got tired of the shiny chrome intake and figured one of the 2 MIGHT help a LITTLE
i believe thats one of the reasons the sr 71 blackbird is black? white is probably the most colour then?Painting your intake pipe Black ...will only increase the temp of your intake pipe.
Seeing as black absorbs heat
Granted your intake tube was cooler (aside from weather differences and other variables) it doesn't mean the air coming in is cooler. You could even be making it worse my insulating it and not letting the hot air dissipate. However all of this is theoretical, unless we get some numbers. Granted I may eventually do this for the aesthetic reasons as you did.main thing was i got tired of seein that shiny ass aem intake after a yr......but the bbq help'd a lil.....after driving my car hard for a while the im got scorchin hot and the intake tube was a lil hot 2 the touch, now the tube feels cold...yes cold, but the IM is STILL super hott
Curious what do you mean reroute the coolant lines from the IM and TB??? Link, Pics, etc!?!?hondata IM and reroute the coolant lines from the IM and the TB!!!
I have yet to find a good guide so im just DIY. basicly there are lines that run to the IM and TB to heat them up in extreme cold to prevent freezing.Curious what do you mean reroute the coolant lines from the IM and TB??? Link, Pics, etc!?!?
just bypass the coolant lines going to the tb...run line from im back to the headCurious what do you mean reroute the coolant lines from the IM and TB??? Link, Pics, etc!?!?
every little bit helps. just look at what speedjunky01 said. 16.4 to 16.8 in a night due to heatsink (i doubt he was becoming a worse and worse driver) thats kind of a big deal.Painting for appearance makes sense.... I've used bbq paint from home depot a few times.
But, how long does the air actually sit in the intake? a tenth of a second? .. I think it makes more sense to pay attention to intake location than worrying about heatsink
