i have an aem sri on my z6 and want 2 paint it (that shiny chrome look is just too blingtastic) and want to try and keep it from heatsoaking.....would i be better off using dupli-color engine enamel with ceramic?(used on vc, still have can) or krylon bbq&stove paint (used on headlights, still have can)....i know they both withstand heat but which one would help keep heat out of my intake?...t.i.a

anyone?
use the enging enamel
ooo good idea
i'm PRETTY sure (dont quote me on this).. that high-heat paint only prevents the paint from melting. it doesn't actually prevent the part from getting hotter.
If you wanna do it the right way use the BBQ paint, then heatwrap it. Heatwrap holds moisture and that means metal damage. Paint, wrap, forget!
so u dont think that using the bbq paint or even the ceramic engine enamel would do the slightest thing?

where do you get it
where do you get it
BBQ paint @ Home Depot or Wal-Mart Engine Enamel at Wal-Mart or any auto parts store
im gonna use the bbq paint b/c its flat black and the engine enamel is red....just got tired of the shiny chrome intake and figured one of the 2 MIGHT help a LITTLE

Correct.
thinking of doing something similiar... only ways i can think of thus far is running the fuel thru a cool can, the cry02 kit or get the intake satin ceramic coated
Well i work at autozone and they had some cans of Engine Enamel Paint the 1500 degrees F in aluminum color for $2 a can so I took all the ones they had and I did my intake and to tell you the truth that stuff really keeps the pipe alot cooler not that its painted than before when it was just the natural polish. That stuff really works i even did some brackets on the engine bay and my front brake calipers just for authetic reasons.

the intake manifold or the tubing? if manifold i def consider this as an option..building a n/a d series build and need any help u can edge i can think of
heat wrap FTW!

Im using DEI's heatwrap paint its silicon based so its an even better inuslator then regular paint, it also is meant to paint the wrap with it so it wont absorb moisture :)
