god damn tuner toys!!

I've been waiting for their TT series connecting rods to come in so I can purchase a set. I've done buisiness with them before and they always were cordial and fair priced. I sent an e-mail a few days ago asking when the rods would be in stock. They replied the next day that the rods should be there soon, and if i wanted I could purchase a set of them at that time and have them shipped to me. I was about to, but I got a funny feeling I shouldn't do it. They e-mailed me the next day with this whole paragraph about how they had 7 sets of scat d16 rods in stock, they didnt know when the TT d16 rods would even be in (glad i didnt send payement), and since I asked about the TT d16 rods they would offer the scat rods to me at a special price, and to keep in mind this "special" price was only offered to me because I had been asking about the tt brand rods. And that the first 7 people to respond would get the limited amount of scat rods they had it this price. Their astounding price was...... $285.. plus shipping.

At first I thought this was a really good deal as I had thought scat was comparable to say a crower rod in quality and price. And figured them normally around $400 a set. I looked into it a little more and actually found them for as cheap as $270+ shipping from a legitimate online store. Looking into it I found that my "special" tuner toys price was actually higher than the first 5-6 other places I found selling rods (including ebay). Granted some places were more expensive and had them for $299 ( I only browsed for a few minutes.)

Personally I originally wanted tuner toys rods for $225 because I'm on an extreme budget and spent more money on other areas of my new turbo build than planned. I know alot of older people might be reading this thinking thats not really that big of a deal, but I'm a college student trying to build a motor on the side, $15 difference is me eating for 2 days. If they were going to quote me their list price they could at least be honest with me and say, we dont have any cheap rods, here is our next cheapest alternative and free shipping or something. I don't even expect them to match lower competitor pricing, but I would have appreciated them being honest with me.

Technically they did nothing wrong, but I kinda think it's a confusing move to use that kinda language like special offering price and everything and then quote me a price thats clearly higher than other places (including ebay which is the first place I always look for shit) And, although I can really only afford the TT rods, I might save up to buy scat rods from another company just because of this (for cheaper might I add.)

Just something to think about. Nothing against tuner toys they've always been good to me and had excellent customer service. In fact i would and have reccomended them to people. if you take any thing from this it's to SHOP AROUND!!!!!

well TT's probably did mark the price down for you in an attempt to give you a "special price". They probably dont sell the scat rods as cheap as the other companies on the net do, which is probably why their marked down price was more expensive. And you shouldnt compare anything to ebay prices........thats doesnt really make sense to me. Everything on ebay is cheaper. I wouldnt let it upset you. Just wait around for the TT rods to get back. If you say you are hurting for money like you are, i doubt whether or not if you get the rods this week or later down the road will matter. If you are doing it on the side then im sure you are planning this over a lengthy period of time. If i were you and on a bugdet, i would wait till the TT rods get back. TT is a good and honest company, and they are d-series affiliates which is another plus.........

but yes, it is always a good idea to shop around. finding the best prices never hurt anyone.........thats something i always make sure to do so i find the best deal.

Yea I'm not in any way downing them, and like I always stated, they've been a good company to me and helped me out, and that's why I continue to go with them. In all honesty TT is usually one of the lower priced companies for most items I need. Your very right they might have given me a discount, but my first impression with the language used in the e-mail, I won't post it but it went above and beyond about what a great deal it was they were offering, and placed emphasis on emailing back to get in on the deal.

since I'm often on their website and only seen them sell their brand and eagles,I was thinking that they got these, offered them to me at a normal price, and threw in some fancy sales language. Once again that was only my first impression.
Sleeper,

Let me be the first to apologize for our "special" pricing on the SCAT Rods. We truly did believe we were offering everyone a good price at $285. SCAT sets prices on those rods at $299 "Jobber", which nobody is supposed to sell below. It was totally our fault for not searching deeper. We basically searched Froogle for "SCAT Honda" and priced the rods below what we found in the results.

BTW, one of the results in Froogle was for CNC-Motorsports selling D Series SCAT rods at $295 shipped.

We are not in the business of giving stuff away for pennies, so the pricing on the SCAT stuff has to stand.

Again our apologies that the speciall pricing wasn't as special as you had hoped.

Thanks from Craig
what the fuck was the point of the thread?

those are the kind of sponsors, i like to see.....:TU:

short, sweet, and to the point
so you are mad because they are below retail, but not as low as other business'? im kind of lost...
me too, TT is sometimes slow on shipping but not always there fault as some of the stuff is shipped directly from there suppliers warehouse, but they have awesome customer service, they once forgot to ship my motor mount inserts haha but i informed them and they offered next day shipping but i declined cause i didnt need them right away :TU:
I think the thread was about a guy complaining about the price of rods...
Jesus Christ. Craig has always provided the utmost in customer service and pricing for the budget minded builder. Its sad you even felt the need to make this post....Craig I will always look to you guys first. Remember sometimes its worth a few extra bucks to buy from a company that provides premium customer service and stands behind what they sell.
I appreciate the response from tuner toys. I wanted to clarify the only eason I was upset, is because I've been waiting to get the ball rolling on my engine build and cannot do that without rods. At the time I started saving and budgeting, their rods were in stock. I know they can't control when their rods are in, and like I said in my original posts they were always very good to me.

My post was meant to say two different things, and I want to apologize for not clarifying enough that

1. the only reason I was somewhat upset at all is because their normal rods weren't in stock, and my first e-mail with them informed me that they had been told the rods would be in this week, now after further communication, the date is put off again and they pretty much told me they didnt know when they would be in. When I titled "godamn tuner toys" I didnt mean like they had wronged me or anything, that was more frustration than anything on my part that my build is being dealyed. Again not their fault, I understand how buisiness works with stocking and what not, and I understand it's 100% out of their control.

2. After using the price they gave me, and adding in what i figured shipping would be, it was still a median to high price in what I found them from other places (cnc motorsports was one that was cheaper, $283 shipped BTW but there were others) . Like I said in my original post I in NO WAY meant to talk bad about the company and in fact like I said before Had great experiences with them, plus reccomended people to them for several turbo builds myself and my friends have done (in fact I just got oil lines from them in the mail). I guess you guys took away that I was mad at the company because of their pricing or something. I don't care either way, most of the time I'll go with the lowest price I can find period, because that's the financial point I am at in my life right now. The point of my post was just to illustrate how important it is to shop around, and I thought I had put enough wording into the original post to make that clear. But for the record, like i said before tuner toys is a great comany, they've never done me wrong and I didn't mean to sound as upset or blaming or anything. Their price is their price and that's their buisiness. Whether or not I choose to purchase from them is my business. I was just trying to relate the importance of shopping around.

In case you didn't take the time to read my original post or let it sink in, I never degraded thir business in anyway. In fact, I praised them and made careful effort to show that they have always been good to me and my friends that have ordered from them. It'd be super cool if we could take personal attacks out of this. It's not sad that I made this post. I wrote a respectful post describing my situation, how I almost spent more money than I needed to and how important it is to shop around. I never slandered, and never even said anything negative. Shit,I've done THOUSANDS of dollars in business with these guys between my parts and cars I've elped friends with. If you can't read and comprehend what I actually said, then thats your problem. :TD:
I fully understand what your intention was. You were frustrated and wanted to vent without smearing Craig's fine name. The fact is that you did it poorly at best.

Your 100% correct about the first part. The second part... not so much. Good thing interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

p.s. friend who's putting together a 14b kit for his car JUST asked me if he needed rubber or stainless oil lines. I told him stainless and linked him to tuner toys.
<--just ordered $2400 worth of TT products :) Too bad its all going in my boys B18C1 :(
I wish I could spend that much right now lol
Im sure people are going to freak out and bust my balls over this, and I might even get banned. But someone has to say it. WHY THE FUCK DO YOU WANT SOME FAKE, MADE IN CHINA EAGLE COPY RODS ANYWAY? Buy Eagle and be done with it.

OH SNAP!

look at the thread title....

just so you know, the same people that make eagle rods, make the TT rods. The only difference is that the eagle rods are machined finished for exact precision, and the TT rods are not............

So do we brother, so do we. :)

It wouldn't surprise us if all of these types of rods are all made in the same place. We don't know for certain, but they all look really similar. We just compared our rods to some new ones offered by K1 (new Carrillo company), and they are almost an exact match. The SCAT rods are really close as well.

Sleeper and I have talked about this, and everything is cool. We understand his frustration with our pricing on these, and he understand why we priced them as we did.

Thanks guys for all of your good words and support!

Craig
