My speedometer went out so I bought a new one off ebay when I swopped them the speedometer still didn't work which I'm guessing is the speed sensor in the trani bit what was weird is the fuel gauge and temp gauge shoot all the way up and stay there the fuel gaige is always all the way up. The temp sensor will drop back down when I turn the key off. I get the same thing when I put my old cluster back in. Anyone have any insight on this issue? I just rebuilt my motor and I'm scared to drive it without knowing how hot its running

if it happens with the two clusters, you might have a short. have you installed a radio recently?

the speedo, fuel and temp gauge all share a ground. if the ground failed the the temp gauge and fuel gauge (cold and low fuel most current will flow to ground) would max out and the speedo would die. the tach is on the same ground too but i assume you have a base model. the ground is also shared with most of your cluster indication lights, clock, turn singal/hazards and a couple other things. in going off of alldata, honda gives more info on this but it all goes to g401 which is behind the left kickpanel.

No but I did blow the radio fuse.

Well I plugged them both up again and both times the temp gauge shoots straight up and the fuel slowly raises all the way up. Everything works but those three gauges. The tach works fine. So could the ground still be the issue?

first verify that the ground is properly installed and ok.

like forever death said, that ground is at the kickpanel, driver side area.

if the ground is ok, then it seems that you have a short.

I have the same problem. I drove my car like that for over a year. Then the check engine light came on, so I check for codes. I got code 17 which is vss (vehicle speed sensor)

dug into my honda achives and the radio is 100% isolated from this, also a power issue its proably not as it would then require power to flow from ground to the fuel and temp senders to move the gauges. fuse 15 under dash 10a powers the cluster quick check would be the oil psi light or check engine. quick ground check would be see if the rear defrost works as it is the closet standerd feature to the cluster, before going into the fuse box, then g401 which ties into g201 and a million things. YELLOW A2 is cluste power for tach, speedo... they all also share A5 BLACK for ground to g401/g201. my best guess it lose pin fitment at the ground as that the only thing i could think of shy of a broken wire. my ef had issuse like this to i litterly unpluged and repluged and the lights started working.

Well the guy who had it before me was a @#$%ing idiot for lack of a better word. I fix something then find something else he destroyed. The kick panel has tons of wires hanging out with clips at the end and I can't find where thkey go. I will walk out jere and check the ground. Then you're saying go through the fuses you [email protected]

Its not full I ran out of gas on the side of the road today. I'm guessing the vss is the speedo issie cause it stopped working a long time ago. After I had enough of getting speeding tickets when I wasn't even trying to drive like an idiot. I tried to switch the cluster and rebuilt my motor then all this startwd

I had this same issue in my dx hatch (1994) I had 3 different ones and all had that issue, then I got the 4th and didnt have anymore issues with it lol. The first one (dx cluster) water temp and fuel gauge worked fine but speedo radomly worked and would jump all over at a dead stop. other 2 clusters (LX) water temp and gas gauge would go all the way up as you described, and then I got the (Ex) one and never had that issues with it?
