either one will do fine. the .48 will spool faster but wont pull as hard as the .63 on the topend.

im guessing the .48 is good for 260ish hp while the .63 maybe a bit higher. both turbos are a very good match for a d-series

260hp? The compressor side is good for ~63lb's of air.

I don't want the spool to be much over 5k for full boost, hence thinking about the 0.48, but i'm not sure what the max power i'l get with a 0.48, so might have to go 0.63. I'd like 400 atw.

no t3 will get even close to 400 hp
with the .63 you might have another 20 hp due to the lack of backpressure (280ish)

if you want 400whp then you need a t3/t4 50 or 57 trim .63 exhaust.
you should get full-boostl on a dinky t3 much faster than over 5k

i get full boost on my t3/t4 .60/.63 57 trim at 4500 rpms. and thats with around 20psi

I don't think we are talking about the same unit :)

I'm running the same turbo as you at the minute, and get to 28 psi by 4800.

thats not a t3.
thats basically a t04s 60-1 a good turbo, but laggy.
if you want 400 hp with faster spool, go with something smaller.
like these.

like i said i have the 2nd one, the 57 trim. and it spools just fine while having room for more power.

even a 50 trim .63 is good for 450hp and will spool a hair quicker. keep in mind though that a larger trim will keep its spool better in between shifts than a quicker spooling or smaller trim. 57 trim is perfect for me, full boost right when vtec hits. keeps pulling past redline.

look like i have the same turbo as you then... i have that garrett t3t4 50 comp, 63 hot side.. whats your set-up, and on 20psi how much power are you making roughly.. right now im running between 22-25psi.. weird that my boost controller shows 25psi, but when my tuner datalogs, it says 22psi

mine is a .60/.63 57 trim
im not sure what power im making on 19 psi. it still needs to be dyno tuned.
but it did make 405 hp @ 25psi before.

as far as your psi goes. go with what your datalog says. map sensor is always more accurate. you might be loosing a few pounds in between all the chargepiping and intercooler.
and id always stick with a mbc. ebc's are just too finicky. mbc's are rock solid and have less to go wrong

a T3 60-1 will still be rated at 550whp. The compressor is a .60 A/R the T4 compressor is a .70 A/R.

If you were able to find a different/better exhaust wheel like a Stage 5 Garrett wheel you can pretty much make an SC61 out of it.

T3 60-1 Garret, pick something else...please. Stage 3 wheel, old wheel design, will not be happy on the SOHC. SC61 yes, 60-1 no.
The SC61 is a 0.63 back housing though, albeit a better wheel design etc i wouldn't think the spool would be any better.

I might go for a t3/t4 60 trim. I don't want to push the 57 trim as hard, as i might change to a different cam and rev it higher later on.

Are you saying you are making full boost on a 60-1 with a SOHC by 3800rpm??

The SC61 is a much better turbo than the 60-1. It does use a bigger housing, also uses a better wheel too. It will spool sooner, harder, and be more effective than the 60-1 at the same boost. I've dynoed & driven with both of them on a Z6.

I'd also go with a 57 trim over the 60 trim. How much power are you trying to make?

I think he has a super 60 by the looks of it. I want 400 whp without pushing the turbo 2 hard, when i up the rev limiter i want to be able to gain some power and rev it hard.
