Can someone provide me with formulas to calculate speed using rpms and transmission ratios? If you have more insight than just this, I'd be happy to learn more...

I'm working on a piece of software that this would be very useful in...

Thanks!

go to facts < technologie and vcalc

ok its german:

Getriebe = tranny

Reifengröße = tire size

Achsübersetzung = final drive

Berechne = calculate

hope this helps

[RPM/gear ratio/final drive*(tire circumference in inches)]*60/12/5280

circumference can be found by measuring the height(diameter) of the tire and multiply by pi(3.14)

Ill find a calculator..

I use 3456 as the constant for the feet/mile/time conversion, pretty standard number.

rpm / gear / gear / 3456 x tire diameter

3000/4.25/.771/3456*22.7 = 60 mph

something like that, notes are at home and libary computer doesn't have a calculator program.

a progam that was written for me by a Hybrid member a while back.........

Whoa....
You pay 24K a year in taxes, and can't figure that out mathematically????

Oh wait, thats right, you are a chemical engineer right??

;)
ass... ;)

and no, I'm a pure chemist... no engineering for this bad boy :) simple algebra is beneath me... :alky: I had to learn complex math like group theory, which was all matrix based math to solve for molecular orbital energies :shock:

Hey Lee there is a super easy one to use at http://racegearbox.com, all you have to know is your gear ratios and tire height.
I wonder where Jamie got that from......

:slap:

Only he wanted a 6th gear option added, it is based on the link I gave above :)
