I would like to invite all of you that live in the Florida region, or anyone else that might want to visit, to join me and other Honda racers to the next NASA Florida event at Moroso Motorsports Park on September 2-3, 2006, or at Sebring International Raceway October 14-15, 2006, and at Homestead Miami Speedway on November 25-26.

If any of you is a licensed road racer, you could also participate of the Honda Challenge race at each event. If you decide to join me at the event, tell the registration person that I sent you. I am trying to show support for the Honda series by bringing in new participants to show who owns import racing in the USA.

If you want to see what I do at each event, check out my videos in google.

I am sorry I missed the Orlando meet, I had previous commitments.

Test your "D" engine on the road course also, not just the straight line.

Anyone can drive their street car on the track. You only need to register on time for the event. If you have never done it, I guarantee you will have the best time of your life. First timers will get an experienced instructor assigned all day.

If you have questions feel free to contact me.

or

You can also visit the NASA Florida site for more information. There is no personal monetary earning for me. I am only sharing a great type of event with you all. I really hope I can get to meet many of you in person at the track.

My guess is between $250 and $300 for a full day at the track With an assigned instructor if going to HPDE level 1. They have not posted the registration yet. I think registration will be available around mid July.

I hope you and many more from here can make it. I have yet to find a better way to spend a weekend.

Well, you will have a good time watching the races too. But wouldn't it be cool to attack the track too? It's a looong time before the event. You could start saving now.

If you don't drive, we can start making great sub-events within the NASA events. I could talk to them and let them know that more people are coming to see the racing and showoff their cars. Wink! ;-)

What do you guys think. Maybe this could be the next NOPI alike show but made by us and for the road racing freaks like me.

I just got my NASA membership today! So Ill be joining you at one of these events for sure! Where is the Moroso track? about how far from Tampa or Ocala/Gainseville?? If its not far Ill prob attend that event as well as the Sebring event!

Now...
i just gotta make sure I get new tires, brake pads, rotors, lines and fluid!!!

MAXIMUS-What DOT/RACE tire do you normally run? i plan to get the azenis, but is there a better tire out there for me that can be driven on the street and around the same wear rate?

I am glad you are pointed in the right direction. I will see you at the track. Regarding your questions...

Moroso Motorsports Park is located in West Palm Beach/Jupiter, Florida. it's about 10 minutes off the Turnpike (exit 109 at PGA Boulevard if I am not mistaken).

Regarding tires, When I finished my Civic, for more than a year I raced it (yes I said RACED it) on Falken Azenis Sport tires. People could not believe that I was running on street tires until they saw them. The Azenis Sport first gen are discontinued now (I think), but I understand that the new version, RT615 are supposed to be as good or better. It is a "race bred" tire (as Falken claims) in street disguise. It will not break your bank account and once you do a couple of heat cycles on them they become the grippiest street tire I have ever seen (especially for the price). So, that said, shoot for the Azenis Sport (not easy to find any more) or the RT-615.

Like I said, I have not tried the new model, but I've heard great things about them. You might get 100s different recomendations when it comes to tires, so feel free to research it. If you don't mind getting a track only tire, I would say that your best bet might be a set of Toyo Proxes RA-1 (plus Toyos are the spec tire for Honda Challenge). But you can get those later once you get into full blown wheel to wheel racing ;) .

Remember always to make your priority safety, then upgrades, not the other way. The faster your car, the more seat time you need to get the most out of it. You can be faster than highly prepped cars if your driving is excellent and they are just average.

See you soon.

Thansk for all the info Rafael! Ill try to find some azenis sports, but if not ill settle for the rt615.

Also, I was reading the hpde rules and whatnot. I saw it says that i will have an instructor ride with me in hpde-1 and then if he feels im ready for solo track time he will sign me off to hpde-2...NOW, could i expect to be signed off after my first event to race in hpde-2 for the sebring event?

Some people have been waived after only one event, but I can't tell for sure. Your unique driving style will determine how ready you are for the next level. I would try to make sure of the following. Once you know how many times you are going to be on-track, plan ahead to improve something for every session.

NASA likes to help people become better drivers and make sure they are ready once they go wheel-to-wheel racing. So, yes, you could get waived pretty quick. Just be aware the it might take you more than one track event before you feel comfortable at higher speeds. Plus having an experienced driver giving you tips, will help you a lot.

Progress is the best indication that you are doing things the right way. In other words, don't try to break a world record on your first try. First, you won't be able to, and second, you increase your chances for an off-road excursion. You want to stay away from any trouble all the time. Remember, even once you are racing (at a grassroots level), you will most likely only be racing for a plastic trophy(and of course, bragging rights). So, there is no point on hurting your car or anyone else's. That doesn't mean you can't be competitive, in fact, you have to be competitive to be able to really enjoy motorsports. Just get there as your experience allows.

I am not sure if I mentioned this before, but I raced my car for a good year and a half without it being competitive, but that helped me become a better driver. Now that the car is closer to the limits of the rules, I am getting the most out of it.

Here is one of the best tips mentioned world wide for aspiring and current racers... "Slow in, fast out". The better you exit speed from corners, the better chance you have to improve your lap times.

If you want to "study" any of the Florida tracks before you go to a track event, feel free to go to my videos section in google and you can download my videos for free(for now, LOL). Here is a link to the videos - http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=rafael+santoni

Yeah, I wasnt planning on just going out there and tearing it up! haha! just wondering if they will advance me quickly(that is if my driving is as up to par as i think it is). So if they DO advance me after my first event, would they still give me an instructor on my second event if I request one? Or maybe if you werent busy you do a ride-along and show me the ropes on Sebring!

BTW, Im getting some azenis withing a week or two! Then Im moving on to the braking section!

Registration is open...

Hi ppl. The registration for the Moroso Motorsports Park event is open since the 19th.

Here is the direct registration link for those of you that contacted me by email:

https://www.nasaproracing.com/nasa_event/show/?event_id=398

For those of you that have never participated, HPDE 1 is your class. That's where you get an instuctor assigned full time.

Thank you,

twanksta, be sure to have quality brake pads (at least Hawk HP+ for front disks and you can buy porterfield R4S compound for rear shoes) and new rotors/fresh fluid before you tackle a day at the track. Of all the components on the vehicle, i think that the brakes will suffer the most (I think the D series motors laugh at us whenever we take them out on the track...is that all you're going to make me do?). Also, I can't stress how important it is for the car to be in optimal mechanical shape. No leaking fluids, no play in bearings or any suspension component for that matter. You will be at or even over 100MPH in some areas so you want to be sure that when you ask your car to do something, that it can and will. Make sure the car is aligned, etc.

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL...HAVE FUN!!!!!!! :IHI:

RAFI!!! Como estas!!!!!!! i can't remember the last time we spoke but Cristian was born on 6/30/06! Pass by the house whenever you'd like!
