External Wastegate with td04 turbo...is this possible? *UPDATED*

Hey guys,

As most of you know I am running a td04-15g turbo on my b7, since my buddy is parting out his turbo setup. I am thinking to get his external wastegate. Since, my turbo has an internal wastegate. Will his tial 38mm wastegate work for my turbo? Is this gonna be an expensive conversion? Or is this just a straight bolt on to my turbo? Thanks gain.

You can do it, but the internal gate i9s fine for how small of a turbo you have.
yeah probably my internal wastegate is sufficient enough for my turbo right now. but an external wastegate is easier to turn up the boost by chaging springs and i wont have much boost spike with it.

well my buddy is willing to throw in the d-series manifold with a T3 flange(from his old turbo) and the tial wastegate flange, so i guess that should solve my problem. just wondering when we i put in my buddies new manifold...do i still need to get this welded? or is this just a straight bolt on to my setup?

well my friend is willing to throw me a good deal if i also get his turbo with manifold and the wastegate. specs of his turbo is (T3/T4oE 50 Trim .48 A/R hotside) compared to my tdo4-15g. roughly what the max boost/power can the t3/t4 put out more? and if you guys had a choice...would you go for the t3/t4 or my tdo4? oh yeah my engine is a b7. thanks guys, now I am in a real dilemma.

you are going to need to drill a 35mm hole in it and then weld a WG flange to the manifold itself. not the best method, but it can be done
when you said i need to drill a 35mm hole...you mean on my current greddy manifold right? well just confirming. you think i can weld the External WG flange somewhere in the middle of my manifold? or is there a better place on my manifold to put the wastegate? thanks.

You can, but to say it agian, there's no point if your useing a 15G. If you pick up that T3/T4 and manifold then worry about an external gate.
i see your point there man..is just i am getting such a good deal from my friend for the tial wastegaste, i just cant pass it up thats why, since he really needs the money, cause he is moving. so can i still get the tial welded on my greddy manifold then?

then buy it and sit on it untill you can really use it. I've done that with plenty of parts (and cars..) and it works out.
so you saying that... get the wastegate now, but dont use it on my setup right now? or at least wait till i get a bigger and better setup like on a t3/t4 turbo at least?

heres mine, hopes this helps ya out
i am guessing you have a z6 or y8 engine? and are you also running a td04-15g turbo or is that a bit bigger? how big of a hole did you drill on your manifold? and with your wastegate facing forward...is it pretty hard changing the springs to turn up the boost? thanks for the pic btw, really appreciate it at least now i am have some idea on how to do it :).

yes.

You can weld it up front in the middle, where the screw hole is.
You can weld it of the left runner.
You can weld it on the internal WG port.
You can make a spacer between the manifold and the turbo, and weld the WG on that spacer
thanks man. i will keep u guys posted, on how it went. thanks.
