EVO 8 BOV mounting question

1541 Views 13 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  areskzc
Alright so i got my evo 8 blow off valve and it does not come with a flange on it for mounting................in fact the bov is plastic, which is fine i guess. i mean, evos frun 18 lbs of boost all day long using this bov, so im assuming it will be ok, even though it is plastic.

Anyways, like i said, it doesnt have a flange. It did however come with the stock intake piping from the evo. it is a small piece, maybe about 12" long and 3" ID (about, not exact!).

i was wondering if it would be okay to mount the bov with that stock section from the evo. here are some pics so you know what im talking about:

heres the bov itself.

heres the intake piping from the evo without the bov connected:

Here it is with the bov installed on it:

And another:

And in this picture, it shows that the intake piping from the evo has 2 nipples on it to connect vaccum hoses to. I was wondering if i needed to connect anything to these in order for the bov or anything with the turbo setup work correctly. I was under the impression that the top nipple on the bov would be the only one used, but do i need to use these two other nipples, or just put come sealent or caulk or something in them?

if anyone could please help me out and tell me what the best thing to do would be, that would be excellent. thanks in advance for any help.

i found the site and it didnt tell any info on the ID/OD of the part where the bov connects. it looks about the same and im sure it wont matter because it will be connected by a coupling. but this part looks basically the same as what i have, just with a MUCH cleaner look. I'll definately look into getting this. do you know if the one i have from the stock intake piping from the evo will work though, as long as i plug those nipples up with caulk, because i may not order that part, it looks pretty simple to make and i think i could prolly weld something up out of some 2.5" exhuast piping and however the other small pipe needs to be. it would be cheaper, but i wouldnt be able to get around to it for a while. so do you think the other from the evo would work for the time being?

thanks

wow, ebay gives alot more info than the website that the pic is from gave.

$25 isnt too bad, but i think i could make the same thing cheaper. Good thing you posted that pic up because i wouldnt have thought of using a piece like that.

thanks
why would u want that bov??! just wondering....
why would u want that bov??! just wondering....

well, mainly because a friend gave me the bov and an autometer pro-comp boost gauge for $40.

i thought it was a good deal for the both of them so i took it, and i really like the way the 1g eclipse bov's sound, so i figured it would sound much the same since they are both dsm products.

i know its plastic, but the evos run alot of boost with them, so i wouldnt think it would be a problem?

but why do you ask? Have you heard bad things about them or do you think it is a bad idea? let me know because i like a little constructive criticism to help me out with my build.

thanks for the input man, i appreciate it!! :TU:
i found a similar part..............it may be the exact same thing. i cant really tell because it is at a different angle. On this one, it looks like the part where the bov connects is tapered (well has a large downsize on the inside diameter). im not sure if the other one is the same, and im wondering if it will bolt up the same with the coupling and some clamps.

Thats wayyyyyy off.The one drunkinmaster posted has a smaller opening. On alot of cars like saabs some dsm, audi,vw,They have a clamp on style bov.My blowoff vavle mounts like that, using a cut 1 inch heater hose and clamps.

You can use a turbo xs style mounting flange pipe that they sell on ebay like this.If your going to make your own it needs to be similar to that.I like the turbo xs style because the edge is rolled to prevent the hose from ever sliping or poping off.My bov also has a rolled edge but its metal, and it looks like your plastic one does too.

Honestly You could cut and use that evo section since you said its 3'' ID.If I did that I would upgrade to t bolts though.

edit: looked at your build thread and saw you allready have t bolt clamps.I would go for it

that one can only be used for a ssqv.
that one can only be used for a ssqv.
yea, read the description on the site, it says that it's a HKS flange... The pipe that drunkinmaster posted earlier would be your best bet, i've got the same thing for my greddy bov...
Doesn't mean anything it's made of plastic. Still not sure if you can relieve the pressure under the 18psi...

Good luck buddy!
