I went sat and got a quote for getting the motor built . Some of the prices seem good, but others seem high imo.

teardown $100
Eagle rods $310
Wiseco Pistons $450
Deck block $75
Bore/hone $150
Bearings $150
Oil & water pump $200
Gaskets/seals/belts $225
ferrea valves $240
Valve job $300
Clean/assemble head $100
Deck head $50
Valve springs $200
Retainers $150
Assembly $800
Clearance for rods $100

Parts total $1925.00
Labor total $900.00
Machine work $675
Total $3500.00 if I pull the motor, $4100.00 if they pull it. They said 4-5 weeks turn around if I just take them the motor and 6 weeks if I take them the car. What does everyone else think?

not worth it...

you can be faster cheaper
that's what I'm thinking. The one thing I really don't like is the wiseco pistons and them boring the block. They will put me at 8.5:1, I want to stay around 9:1. The srp's are cheaper, will keep me at 9.1 and just require honing.

Wiseco's are cheaper than that. get tuner toy rods.
thinking about it, but I don't know if I want any more maching cost for them to fit the rods.

tt rods 225 man shit the vitaras are 140ish
I want to go with the srps. I know people are making massive amount of power with the vitaras, but I want to go with a forged piston.

not everyone wanst to run vitaras.. he said he wants to keep his compression up a bit...
if you going to spend that.. honestly id swap in a k
run low low 13s or high 12s with a stock k basically.... itd be about the same price
maybe, the k swaps around here are still around 5k. I don't think I could ever go back to na . I like my d, I don't want to swap it. I love the looks when I bust someone's ass and pop the hood and they see the SOHC ;)

Duck, you need to do what I'm doing... Get yourself a stand, get another Z6, and build up as time/$$$ allows. BTW, who or where did you get that quote?
yeah, Remo has got me a hook up on a block, and I have a friend that has a head I can get cheap. The quote was from RLZ in conord NC. I went up there just to check it out and see what kind of price I could get on it all. I'll prob go the same route and build it myself. Ask Remo, I'm scared shitless about messing something up. I guess that's a good thing so I know I'll check and double check everything.

but duck look on the briteside you'll sitll have an extra block so when you're done w/your turbo block you can rebuild the orginal block so if and you ever want to sell you car. you can put the original block fully rebuild back to stock and sell you turbo block. either way you come out winning. the person that buy you car will have a new motor and you know damd well someone will buy an already build block w.all the parts you drop in for close to what you pay to do it yourself. win-win all around. and on the downside if you blow up you motor you still have an extra one build.
true
Either way Duck, we're here to help yah! When are you looking to start the build? Tax return time? LOL, same here...
well, not really tax time lol. I get a bonus from work the end of feb and have some money coming to me the end of march from some investments. I don't get taxes back most of the time :(. Kristen is self employed and we end up owing the end of the year

Well, it's all coming back to me now... I remember you saying that. Sorry to hear it; but yeah, Jason (my friend at Verizon) said he'd be getting his bonus soon too. BTW, if you see a silverish IS300, that's his new ride.

Call me some time and we can talk plans for this. I'm here to help!
cool, will do :TU:

duck, just build it yourself. i know most people here will probably disagree with what im about to say, but heres what i did..

took out my motor and disassmbled it in the parking lot hehe
since i spun a rod bearing, i tossed the crank/pistons/rods
ordered my parts, and had a really reputable local machine shop check the specs on everything (pistons, crank, rods, etc..) and then deck my block 0.005 (to get that old cardboardy gasket shit off) hotank, bore and hone, sqaure, and they had to line-hone the mains because one of the mains got a tad too hot.

so yea, $600 for them to do my block (300 was just the line hone..) They checked the crank i got (from onefuriouscrxsi) and said it spec'd out great, they just polished it up. they cheked the big end bore of my rods, siad they needed to be done, so they did that. (like $10/rod)

threw that bitch back together with new acl bearings, assembly lube, and torque specs from my chiltons..

been running GREAT for the last 5k or so.. and if you've seen my burnout vid you know i beat the crap outta that motor. btw that vid was taken at liek 1.5k on the motor..i beat on it everyday man..

fine a good shop, have them to the machien work, put it together yourself :TU:
I prob will end up doing it myself. I've been looking at local machine shops to do the honing for me. I don't want much taken off the head and the block, just enough to square it up and maybe raise the compression just a hair. From reading the post on here from Rexinere, 9.6:1 seems to be the perfect ratio for boost and still have good bottom end for dd. The srp's will put me at 9:1, so just a hair off the head should be good.

^^^ true, I think 9:1 would prob be perfect for me, that's just a tad lower than stock.

and the b swap would still be slower.. over a fully built motor.... thats a lot of money tho......

you can do it duck... just take your time you gonna go for sleeves or run stock sleeves???
exactly my point, why pay for a b swap when I can build my motor, run more boost and spank one even more than I do now :).
I want to run stock sleeves. There are a bunch of d's out there running stock sleeves making great power.

Well Duck, have we got an update on the machining? Gotten any parts back yet?
No :(. I'm hoping soon. I'm trying to find a car to drive while it's down. I've picked up some things I need though. I got a new msd cap and rotor, some new plugs, my arps, and I just got my 3 bar map sensor in today from Tuner toys.

So, is the coupe down right now??? Thought you got spare stuff to do that build on?

Anyways, what are you looking to drive in the meantime? Gotta bunch of used car places down here near Cherrydale and Poinsett hwy...

BTW, the greatest news! I'm closing on a house in less than a week and a half! Hooray! Double car garage and all too! LOL
cool, congrats :TU:. Nah, the civic is still up and running. I picked up a spare block and crank and dropped them off about 2 weeks ago. I'm just looking for something for when it does go down. I'm wanting to clean up and paint the bay while the motor's out. I'm getting a LSD too and he can't install it until next month, so I don't really want to put it all back together and then have to drop the tranny again for the LSD install. I found something today I liked pretty cheap, but the lot that it was on was closed.
that seems REALLY pricey man?
out the door taxes and even the price of the gasket kit...bearing kit and rear main seal i only dropped 1100
that was full port n polish head..3 angle valve job install valves ..spring retainers and cam
block was hot tanked ..honed..bored..notched..crank was sent out and polished and balanced and them short block and head were assembled...
Nice, I wish people around here had those kinda prices. Everyone around here is expensive as hell :(

Cool ! Anything you might be looking at that I could keep my eye out for?
I dunno . I'm looking for a cheap pick up or little suv type vehicle.
