My y8 runs fine, but its getting old (probably because I have too much fun with it). It tends to burn oil on long trips, so i'm looking for rebuild options in the near future. I don't know if I should stay with OEM parts or if its worth it to invest more because it is my driver (I can't say daily driver because it does long weekend trips, which are sometimes 500+ miles). The length of the trip is what gets me, because as it is, I'm always low a half quart at the end of that trip.
So far this is what I'm considering:
-convert to external oil reservoir (dry sump?) to allow 5+ quart capacity
-full OEM rebuild
-partial N/A buildup, i.e. eagle rods, stock pistons/rings, full bearing replacement, stage2 crane cam, header
-more extensive N/A setup, i.e. built bottom end, gude ported head, ported IM, header, clutch
I have no idea what anything like this would do to my wallet. I'm just curious if anyone has done setups like these and how much they cost to do. If anyone has FI prices, those are welcome too since that isn't out of the question either.
