This should be quick. We're replacing a rear wheel bearing/hub with a new unit (bearings and hub already assembled) on our little rally car with an Integra rear disc swap. The bearings look sealed, but what do we know. Do we try to pack them with grease or just slap the hub on and move on?

Buy replacements on eBay and slap it in you, You Cheapskate.

1990 happened 25 years ago.
Hey.. At least we bought local (supporting small businesses and all). :)

At least we don't have to get "race car" priced parts for this. There seems to be nothing cheap when you start thrashing 25 y/o cars. We probably bought Summit Racing a new boat this last year with what we spent with them.

There was a thread a while back, where a track guy tore down his new bearings and re packed with a high grade synthetic grease.

As others have stated, new bearing will come pre greased and you shouldn't have to mess with it, but if you are going to be putting em to hard use, it may be something to consider

I thought of this, but we only need about 500 miles out of them before they get looked at/replaced. I am afraid of damaging the bearings when taking them apart.

Extreme care and precautions are required if you decide to do so. Iirc I thought the individual was doing some Enduro or some sort of very prolonged driving at one time, at the end of the day, it's your call.

We pound the crap out of the rear end with all the sliding and stuff, but haven't had any issues with running the bearings as they come from the factory. In fact, this is the first time we've had to replace one in 3 seasons and this is with the bearing that came on the car. Thanks for the mention, though. If it becomes an issue, we can always open them up and grease them. I think I'll take the old one apart to see how it goes.
