DIY Ice Box Style Intake

ok well i got the bright idea i'd try and make a DIY ice box since they are getting hard to find today and are expensive, so heres what i did. BTW this pretty much is only needed on 96-00 Civics as 92-95's dont have a resonator. All cutting was done with a dremel using a carbide burr, you can use whatever you want to cut it out, i chose that as it was what i had and easy. Now is it worth it? Depends, it cost me a total of 45 bucks for the K&N and silicone, i know you can get a cheap ebay intake for less than that but whatever. It was fun for me to do and it still uses all OEM parts

ok so here we start with our stock intake box

next we unscrew the three screws on the bottom

next remove the rubber piece

inside it looks like this

now these next few steps are un needed but i did them to show you all what it should look like inside and to allow everyone to see it

now comes the cutting. THIS IS VERY MESSY!! it makes a lot of dust, so be warned

ok now its all cut out

now i cleaned up the piece and this is all you need now

this piece goes on like so

ok this is what it looks like all together

now your gonna notice gaps when you put it together and this is where this comes in

your gonna start sealing around it

ok inside it looks like this

now you need to reach on inside carefully kinda like your reachin for a girls g-spot and wipe this away

the only light you should really see is top and bottom like this

and your gonna need a rag. Its gonna look like a 16 year olds jizz rag when its done

now take your finger and smear it around, but be careful not to split the seam

now let this set for 12-24 hours

than comeback the next day and you have this

now seal this up as well

when you look through the other way it should look something like this

now let this set also to dry. Moving on....

Now we take our air filter box and modify it like so
Stock

Modded

Side by Side

With filter in

Flip side

And here it is all together

Now you wanna go ahead and run another bead around it once its all dry to help reinforce it

Now let that dry and go work on your intake arm

Now, what i did was tae a large cork and shove it in this hole and just seal it over with black RTV

ok so now we move onto installing it on the car, your going to wanna use this little dohickie right here to mount it just like the stock box

now when i went to put it on i noticed it was a little loose around the rubber piece so i took some duct tape and wrapped it around 4 times like so

than trim the excess off like so

and this is what it looks like when done

ok i also noticed a little clearance issue here

so i figured it was time for a little Nate engineering and i felt like pissin the neighbors off at 11:45 at night so i took the dremel outside(the rents were asleep) and fixed it.

and....

i also didnt like the way the silicone was sealing and flexing so i added a layer of RTV on top of that to help color match better and to help flexing issues

and here it is all done

Shit looks good cant wait to see how you like it
I did something similar with my integra stock airbox and the tube that goes into the silencer box. it replicates the icebox very closely.

Im sorry man but that does not look clean at all.... nice concept but there has to be a better way to do that.... silicon? come on bro
