i'm curious; are the blocks for the a6 and z6 the same? I know the c/r on the 2 motors are different but i thought that was because of the combustion chamber volume and piston height/volume are difference.
if they are different what is the difference between teh 2 blocks?

And I know the 2 cranks are the same or was i told wrong?

i just dropped a d16z6 into my 90 si hatch and was wondering if it would be a good idea to keep my old shortblock around just in case and if i threw a rod or something i could swap blocks.

there are minor differences, but the A6 is the better block.

Z6 block not tapped for ZC axles, sensor locations, etc.

Other than that, keep your A6 as a spare, if not built it for later use.
