My brother and I are beginning a build up of his 1998 4door Civic Lx 5spd sedan. As I understand it, this car came with the D16y7 motor. After reading up on several different posts it seems most people here are using the D16y8, with a different head and intake setup. I assume that most of the people here are starting with the D16y8 because they start with the 2dr Ex model Civic correct? We intend to also do a head & intake swap with his y7 (using a z6 setup), but what I need to know is if there are any differences that are going to bite me in the ass regarding the bottom end of the engine.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Oil pan/oil pickup are different.

There is a bit more reinforcing material on the Y8 sleeves.

Y8's have knock sensors, y7 do not

Those are the only major differences to worry about. YOu will be fine going the route you want to go.
