devere's Build Thread! Big update.....ITS IN! and IT GOES!

So, after finally getting a new job after being out of work for a little while im now in a position to do some work to my car!

Its a DX, so has the Y7 in it. Now, not wanting to mess about with the engine in it, as its prob worth more over here as standard, i decided to get a new one!

I took delivery of my new Y7 last week, and have finally gotten round to taking it apart!! As you can now see!!

The new build will be..
P29's, Y8 2 layer headgasket. ported head, delta 272 or maybe a 282...! New springs and retainers. Edelbrock intake mani, B16 TB, DC Sports 4-2-1 exhaust mani, Tanabe SMR exhaust system. AEM cold air intake, Chipped P06 ECU.

And i have probably missed a few things! I will be buying the parts as i go along with the build, that way i wont have to part with loads of money at once.

So watch this space!!

Not sure about oversize pistons, depends what the budget will run to! And i wasnt really sure how much benefit going .5 over would be, as thats what honda recommends as a maximum as far as im aware...?

The light in the shed im taking it apart in makes it look worse than it is i think. i have one overhead light that isnt really very bright!!

I think the engine must have been sitting for a bit, as the throttle body had some sand sitting on the butterfly!!

Anwyay, as its being completly re done im not too bothered! lol.

DAM that fucker is rusted!!!!
LOL. That really is the way the pics are taken that makes it look bad, its literally just where the bores have been damp. It rubs off with your finger. Then obviously theres some carbon build up on the pistons. But then its all coming apart anyway!

Dont want to go for the Y8 head really. Would have got the whole Y8 if i wanted to plan that. Id rather get as much power out of this as possible and embarrass a lot of people around here, where there idea of a tuning mod is 18 inch wheels and 3 subs in the boot...!

Imagine some peoples face if you race them and beat them, then can honestly say your running a 1.6 non vtec....

Damn holiday weekends!

As much as i enjoy a nice 4 day weekend, i really hate the fact that no one is ever working at the places you want to buy stuff from!!

Im trying to buy the edelbrock intake mani from a company over here, and have 1 more day to wait till they are back on tuesday!!

The last few days have been really frustrating!!

And im waiting to get my p29's/pm7's.... I really am very impatient!!

Just thought i would add some pics of a few parts ive gotten over the last week or so, and the best one that came today!

A nice new set of Nippon Racing P29 pistons, as you can see, in standard bore.

A new boomslang OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness.

A socketed and chipped ECU i bought from Shifty35 on here. He even wrote me a basemap on the chip that should get my build started!

And heres the latest part that landed on the doorstep this morning!

Hopefully ill get to put a few of these parts together if i pull my finger out!

Well, depending on which head gasket i decide to go for, out of the D16Y8 3 layer or 2 layer, its gonna be either 12.03:1, or 12.46:1.

Im thinking on going for broke (although not literally!) and going for the 12.46:1

Ill be getting the head ported, and both the inlet mani and exhaust mani matched to the head. So with either the delta 272 or maybe even 282, im looking to turn it into a bit of a sleeper!

i was looking in to rods, but when i looked on websites like tuner toys, i couldnt actually see any listed for any d series engines, although i know you bought some ryan! So if anyone can point me to somewher ei can buy them online it might help..!

Otherwise i will be running the stock rods which as far as i am aware, SHOULD cope with it, but may just slightly limit the potential..

Someone please correct me if im wrong tho....

Well, i found the balls to take the head to an engine place this afternoon after work, to have it ported... Reason i say it like that is because its gonna hit the wallet fairly hard... :(

I also took the edelbrock mani in with me and am getting that matched to the head, so im making sure i do these things right!

So it looks like ill be staying in at weekends for a while to save some money...!!!

very cool man....I must say taking a motor looking like that and doing a built on it makes theend result that much sweeter... Best of luck w/ the build and I look forward to seeing the pics update and your progress through.

hopefully the port job won't hurt the wallet to bad...thanks for sharing

awsome mate..........you seem to have it all well sorted..............engine looks like it's been thrown down the khazi and shat on a few times though...

So what's next?
HAHA! It will look better when its done! At least it better do...! :noway:

Next up is finding a B series throttle body for it, get a 2 wire IACV and the plug to go with it and also maybe in the enxt couple of days order the Hondata S200 system.

I am waiting for Delta Cams to fax me the spec sheets for teh 272 and 282 grinds they do. I have a 272 in my current engine, but never got a spec sheet with it. Comparing both of those will determine if i just go wild and get the 282, which i am very tempted to do..!
