What is the correcet name for what he is trying to do?

I'm curious now. Can someone post a picture of this kind of modification so we (noobs) can understand better what this is about?

on RS machines Website they have a picture of this Deck plate you are referring to. also decking is is milling the block. when you take the block to the machine shop to make sure it has a good surface. they charge you for decking

I've seen it on one picture they have on the wbesite. It shows the solder cord all arround. It really looks cool. What material are the plates made of?
