Decking an A6.....any advice?

As the title says.......I want to improve the rod stroke ratio on an A6, what is involved in decking the block? How much material to add?

I have already purchased a block with this done, but I dont know anything about the process or what is actually involved.

Anybody with tech information on this process, and what it does?

First of all you must decide what rod/stroke ratio you want. Then buy some rods and calculate the hight of the block.

Now you got 90mm stroke and 137mm rods. that means R/S=1.52.

If you want to better the R/S ratio you must lower it and that means shorter rods=lower block.

My bad.

You must increase R/S and buy longer rods so you must deck your block...

How about if you're getting Eagles/Vitaras and you want to deck the block so the pistons sit at about deck level?

What is the correcet name for what he is trying to do?

I'm curious now. Can someone post a picture of this kind of modification so we (noobs) can understand better what this is about?

he wants to add a deck plate which requires the block the be sleeved.

Expect to spend $2500 to have it done.

Not worth it IMHO.

As to the above ^^.....I already have the block, decked, notched, and sleeved.....I paid 1000.00 for it. Professional job done by a local machine/engine builder shop.

I just have to figure out what pistons and rods to use now, I am searching for info on the process of decking.

on RS machines Website they have a picture of this Deck plate you are referring to. also decking is is milling the block. when you take the block to the machine shop to make sure it has a good surface. they charge you for decking

I've seen it on one picture they have on the wbesite. It shows the solder cord all arround. It really looks cool. What material are the plates made of?

you're lucky, builthatch saved you, this time.

But to find the answers you're looking for you're going to need to talk to a machine shop that has dealt with these types of things before. And you're in luck, because RS Machines is a new sponsor on d-series, should be fairly simple to get ahold of.

so what will your final displacement be when you are done. do you have a set goal.

Thats what I am unsure of on the block I purchased....Im in the process of working all the specifics out with the builder I got it from....more info to come.
