Valve covers are the same aside from the D17 having a dipstick hole next to the oil filler cap. This will still work on the D16 as lines up with the oil return on the back of the D16 head.

Combustion chambers aren't much different.

Front oil return ports are different though and will require tweaking.

You don't want to run a D17 head on a D16 also because it is not provisioned for a dizzy and runs a big thermostat housing off the side of the head as opposed to the D16 having their thermo housing hanging of the water pipe on the back of the block.

D17s also have a hall effect cam position sensor whereas the D16s don't (since they have a dizzy to keep time).

Exhaust ports are significantly different as well. Whereas the D16s are oblong, the D17s remain circular and help keep exhaust velocity high on its way out of the head, helping a bit on the low end.

They take the same valves, springs, retainers and keepers as a Y8 head as well.

Overall, they aren't terrible heads at all, just pretty much incompatible with a D16.

head castying different

otehrwise mimic of d16y7 head

casting prevents manifold swaps of both kinds, casting problems alos effect what cna be used

fuck it, dont do the d17 head, it sucks ass.

FYI, circular ports are NOT the best for velocity

research where you got that bogusinfo

if it was as simple as casting a hgole versus an oval or teardrop, it would have been used in the last 30-40 years much mroe often
