hey guy!
first post on here so sorry if this has been answered.

so ive been looking at some d16y7 turbos and everyone uses a y8 tb and a y8 im (throttle body and intake manifold). im wondering why i cant just use the y7 ones? i have a y8 im but not a y8 tb so do i need the y8 tb? ive seen a couple turbos on the y7 parts so let me know... thanks!
just a dd turbo build nothing crazy, looking for about 170hp minimum for now on stock internals if that matters.

Please don't tell me your driving that car. My car needs to be tuned also but at least I have a basic base map when I hit boost.

im not driving it so yah not an issue,
finally got around doing majority of the install, all i have to do is put the cooling lines on the turbo, i read some diy's and stuff but none talk about them at all, any help guys? i did start it up for fun and a lot of white smoke was coming out of the exhaust i have no idea why, read some forums but still unsure of the cause, still have to do my 440cc injectors and walbro 255, maybe after that the smoke will clear up?

there is a tad bit of an oil leak only while the car is running so i was guessing maybe it has something to do with that.. smoke isnt blue ish at all from what i can tell and the smoke if definitely not black its just white. heard may be the head gasket but i havent even driven the thing yet so any help is appreciated !

hey guys im back,
got the coolent lines and everything is done,
its blue smoke drove it for a couple meters if that. my feed and everything is good. at start up, there is no smoke for 1-2 min then it starts smoking (at one point itll be smoking a lot). looked around i noticed around the turbo it looks sort of ''greasy''.
there is an leaking oil somewhere but i cant pin point the exact location.
i feel like oil is getting into the downpipe (does drip from somewhere onto downpipe and the downpipe wasnt welded properly either (tiny gap believe oil is getting into it) or something like that or there is something wrong with the turbo. car was running fine before and turbo was bought used anyways. no kinks or anything in lines, not sure whats wrong.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

i read the forums says could be head gasket (didnt even drive the car though, gasket was fine before), kink in oil return (straight line from turbo to return, no kinks), oil backed up into turbo (not sure if its that, dont know how i could tell that but i dont think its that since there is no kinks or anything),
want to get her done this weekend so please help me out guys!
thanks again.

do you have a restrictor in the turbo feed line? could be pushing too much oil causing it to push past the seals

What are you using for engine management?

To answer your original question a stock OBD2 y7 p2e ecu requires a 3wire iacv, which is mounted on the y7 throttlebody. Most other 88-2001 hondas (including OBD2 cars converted to OBD1 to tune) use a 2 wire IACV mounted on the intake manifold.

So y7 with stock p2e ecu requires y7 TB regardless of what intake you use. However you cant tune that ECU, so you cant run a turbocharged engine correctly with it. A Y7 converted to OBD1 running a p06 ecu would require an intake manifold with 2 wire IACV and a throttlebody with no iacv, or the 3 wire iacv disconnected and blocked off (which can be done with silicone or a piece of a popcan.

Yes the feed has a restrictor on it, not sure of the size I know there's a restrictor on it though. I just can't seem to find out what's wrong, turbo was fine before. Is it possible it's an issue with the turbo? It's and oem Subaru one not an eBay one.

And for the other answer, after some research I I'm going to do the obd1 conversion and 2wire with the tb as well.

Honestly just want the car to drive at least without smoking up and without even hitting boost. Might just take off the turbo and downpipe now and start again during spring.

Any more possible reasons why?
Thanks to everyone who's helped me out so far.
