Hi all...

I'm running a D16Y7 in a '97 Civic Coupe... I've had a few bits and pieces done so far, and now I'm looking for a cam. Problem is, I can't find anywhere over here in the UK that'll do anything for the y7 :?

Do any of you know of a US company that would sell me a cam and send it over?

I looked at the deltacam website and strangely enough I couldn't see an email address (although maybe I need a new pair of glasses :oops: )...

Thanks! I emailed Wil and he's given me a pretty good price...

Anyone know what a 274 dur and 396 lift cam will drive like? Is it quite harsh or is it still reasonably driveable? I'm fairly new to cam tech talk... :oops:

delta cam 272 got .340 lift, and is good for street, and race, with good idle, power from near idle to redline...

I think that your cam had too much lift for streetable use, maybe will make slower than faster with no MAJOR internal mod and no reprogrammed ECU...

Surelly better on track with high compression piston, some headwork, valve spring, 4-1 header, bigger intake, bigger TB, reprogrammed ECU and more...

At the moment, I'm running a custom exhaust with a D15 exhaust manifold and downpipe (it gets rid of the silly cat/mani combo on the UK y7), and a short pipe air intake with a pipercross cone filter on the end. I'm hopefully going to be able to source a y8 intake manifold and a 60mm TB from somewhere soon too.

The cam is my next step though...

we released our cams already for the y7. you dont need the springs on these cams but it is suggested to get a fuel regulator and cam gear. hp gain is about 5-10 hp with bolt ons.
Do you guys think that this will do the job? Wil hasn't actually said what profile he was talking about... I only saw the other post about the special deals and took it from that. Does that sound like the sort of gains a mild profile might return? If there's more than one cam profile available, what one would you recommend?

Oh, I'm also hoping to be able to put the cash together for a Dastek Unichip at a later date, but is there be a better (read: cheaper :D ) option?

Im kinda lost on what is being said on this post... so I'll make this short.

We don't design our cams for comfort in mind. We design cams around the basis that it will make power. We were thinking of releasing the Mild cam for the y7 as well, but then we don't want the customer to think later on that its not enough. because it does take a bit of risk and chance to make an engine to produce power. making a weak cam just doesnt feel and sound cool. if you want power out of that y7, the 274 lift is the way to go. if you are concerned about its 396 lift, we can give the 262 cam with the 360 lift for you.

Never having had these options in the UK before, I'm fairly new to investigating the differences between cam profiles and the results they produce. I was just wondering what effects the different profiles would have. Sorry if the questions seem a bit thick... :oops:

I understand what the profile will do in relation to the valves but I don't know what the results will be specifically other than the bigger the number, the more aggressive the cam. But when describing it as aggressive, does that mean faster reving, lumpier idle, no low-down power? Any explanation that someone could give me would be greatly appreciated...

Oh... and whatever the profile, I quite like the idea of getting myself an exospeed cam :wink:

...and I'm not afraid of a bit of a lumpy idle :twisted:

I'm up in Glasgow... What lift are you getting on the 272?

Thanks for the info Belette! It certainly helped clear things up a bit... :D

That would make your profile not a million miles away from the 274/396 spec I'm looking at?

Are you getting new valve springs too? What mods have you got already?

272 lift at .340 !

weird comparaison about exospeed that 274 and lift .396

It will be nice if we got dyno sheet with all these regrind on it to choose the best for setup wanted.

I've decided that honour is the better part of valour on this occasion as I will mostly be driving in the city and on tight twisty country back roads where I can't really afford to lose too much power further down the rev range... :oops:

I'm gonna go for the 262deg/.360" version instead.

As soon as I get it fitted and set up, I can post before and after dyno graphs if you like...
