D15z1 / D16z6 Frankenstein

I started today my D15z1/D16z6 frankenstein built.
Means z6 short block with z1 head. The head is going to be ported and milled by .002''. Disassembled bouth engines and started cleaning.
here are some pictures:
VX D15z1 swirl head

VX D15z1 piston in block

comparison z6 / z1 head

comparison z6 / z1 cam gear (same)

this will be the shape when it's ported

to be continued...

i have found that the rocker assembly and cam from a z6 will fit perfectly on a z1 head to make it true vtec and if you port the head like the pic you posted and use the z6 rockers and cam that would make a pretty bad ass head it will make like 11.3:1 on stock z6 block

thats good to hear! But i whant to keep the vtec-e mode for MPG thats why i am using the z1 head. And the z1 cam has a larger lift then the z6 cam when vtec engages.
i call that engine D16z1:gayfight2:
head complet disassembled and cleaned

i beg to differ on what you say about the z1 cam having more lift than the z6 i did som quick measuring of both cams on the z1 with the big intake lobe and the z6 on the secondary lobe(vtec lobe) and found that the z6 has a smaller base circle with at least .020 more lift than the z1

Last week I had my z1 head in the Computertomograph to see how the ports are shaped and if there are some cracks. The head is in perfect condition!

Here you can see the slight difference between the swirl (lower in port) and the non swirl port (upper in port)

I'd like to know where can i take some material off to get better flow? bowl etc.

received today my head from the welder and started filling up the valve stem area of the intake side.

made some wood sticks to seal the valve guide: 6mm grinded to 5,4mm and wraped with some tape

I used a 2-compound plasticine that resits up to 300°C

before

after

The protruding material will be shaved when the head is getting ported.

did you mirror polish the intake?

if yes

FAIL
NEVER NEVER polish the intake too much.a bit rough surface supports the atomiziation(spell check???)
a too smooth surface ends with fuel drops at the walls :-(

this looks like it has potential ! I have always wondered if the roller rockers in the z1 could be put to any good use. if you ever decide against your economy idea, I say get a custom cam grind and lock vtec all the time !

I'm going to guess Z6 IM and run it on a tuned P28 given the port size.
