Since it's imported from Japan- If it has two vtec solenoids it's a 3 stage vtec d15b!It also has the "HONDA" word on the valve cover!

Here's a pic......it used to have a silver valve cover, just swapped it for a black one.

hey i also have a JDM D15B and no they dont come with numbers after the D15B bit. if its pre 1995 then it its a 2 stage vtec ie. Vtec lobe and non vtec lobe

Displacement, cc 1493
Engine model D15B
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 130 ps (95.62 kw) / 6800 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 14.1 kg*m (138.27 N*m) / 5200 rpm
Power density 7.62

Engine type Water cooling serial 4 cylinder SOHC16 valve
Engine information Horizontal ranging belt driving
Fuel system Electronic fuel injection system (HONDA PGM-FI)
Turbocharger No
Fuel type Unleaded regular gasoline
LEV system (Low emission vehicle) No
Compression ratio 9.3
Bore, mm 75
Stroke, mm 84.5
Final gear ratio
Fuel consumption at 10-15 modes, l/100km 6
Fuel consumption at 60 km/h, l/100km 4.3

If its post 1995 then its a 3 stage vtec 2 vtec lobes and one non vtec lobe

Displacement, cc 1493
Engine model D15B
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 130 ps (95.62 kw) / 7000 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 14.2 kg*m (139.25 N*m) / 5300 rpm
Power density 7.92

Engine type Water cooling serial 4 cylinder SOHC16 valve
Engine information 3stagecVtec horizontal ranging belt driving
Fuel system Electronic fuel injection system (HONDA PGM-FI)
Turbocharger No
Fuel type Unleaded regular gasoline
LEV system (Low emission vehicle) No
Compression ratio 9.6
Bore, mm 75
Stroke, mm 84.5
Final gear ratio
Fuel consumption at 10-15 modes, l/100km 5.8
Fuel consumption at 60 km/h, l/100km

the USDM engine codes for the JDM D15B are as followed Head=D16z6 and Block=d15z1

""Honda Civic VTi EG4 (D15B SOHC VTEC)

While it gives up 100cc of displacement it still makes the same power as our D16Z6. Advantages of this motor is that its got much better rod/stroke ratio, lighter assembly meaning it can be revved higher for longer periods of time without expensive rebuilds. Motor itself uses a VX block (d15z1) and D16z6 head. Rated by Honda of Japan @ 130ps (128hp) (figures at the flywheels before the frictional losses of about 15-17%) ""

thats pretty much it on the JDM D15B if u need any more info dont hesitate to ask and ill see if i can help ya

Thanks dude....that was what I was looking for and then somewhat....so I take it that mine's a pre 95 VTEC D15B? I just have to dump the shit auto box and put in my manual tranny.

Thanks

isn't the VTI auto tranny one of those funny ones that don't have regular gears? Meaning it has variable gears that don't shift? Maybe I'm thinking of a different model...

In any case, auto sucks... never mind what some people on this board say :)

BTW, wow, how much are parts in S. Africa? Gotta be expensive... $$$

Nah, I have the stock auto tranny on that and it shifts alright.....no single gear type thingie....

Auto does suck, when I actually bought the car I already had a manual tranny lined up for the swap. Auto cars in SA are frowned upon and in the shape like mine are not common at all. I've driven stick all my life....auto blows.

Parts aren't that expensive. I did my motor (used) and gearbox swap for about the same price that you'd pay for a normal cars block. (reconned).

Not as cheap in the states, but you could land a B16a for about$600-$900 US.

I paid about $600. I got taken bigtime, but I'm quite happy with the swap and it surprises a few people. I've swapped the complete auto tranny to a guy that gave me all the manual parts to convert the car to manual.

Built the CRX short ratio gears into a S04 D series gearbox. Should be interesting.

Fastest D series over here does about a 17 1/4

It's not completely a VX block
The VX D15Z1 block is stamped "P07" on the back opposite of the D15B Engine stamping
The JDM D15B VTEC block is stamped "P08" at the same location
To slap the USDM D16Z6 head on a stock D15Z1 block would result in a low compression motor

Way to bump a thread that's almost 3 years old.....lol.

I've seen a few D16a's around Pretoria, my mate had one in his 150 encore, but he was having tonnes of problems with it.

Nice to see another South African on here.
