Hey!
I am new to the forum but I recent just picked up a 1992 Eg Si. The car came with a d15b Vtec boosted. No name turbo. I need a tune horribly!
But first need some parts. Right now the car goes fine and runs fine but the turbo dies off at 5000 rpm. and I have to ease into it for it to spool. If I slam the gas the turbo immediately cuts off.

I need an upgraded intake manifold as he is running the stock one. I was told Skunk2 is good except has a lot of wear and tear if I am hard on the car and doesn't do anything for me performance wise. Any thoughts on this?

I was told it also had the stock fuel pump still. Any recommendations?
Was thinking a 255 LPH from Walbro.

I am not looking to break the bank on the car since I plan on doing a swap. I just want it running good for now.
so used parts are fine or cheaper ones.

The body is in pretty rough shape. Has pop locks and I hate them. The doors are pretty much all bondo unfortunately.
Everything was done half ass and needs to be replaced. Any advice on where to get some doors? I have looked at our pull and pays and on CL but no luck.

Thanks guys!!

You do not need a new intake manifold. You need a tune. You need to make sure your fuel pump will out flow your injectors, which should be rated to your expected HP (talk to your tuner).

What ECU are you running? Again find a tuner you're comfortable with and go off their recommendation.

I have someone that will and he told me to get a intake manifold. But if I don't need to spend that then I am not going to haha.

I will be completely honest and admit I am learning. So I may be naive with some of the things I amtold. Hd

It is the original ecu. He is charging 450 to chip and dyno the car for me.

The turbo issue is might be a worn bearing it could be egg shaped if you ease in it it slips but with a heavy load on the hot side it could be forcing the shaft to move slightly out of alignment causing it to bind up.

Have you checked the turbine wheel to see if it has any side to side movement?

Yes I have. The turbo is good. My friend also double checked it.

how does an object that is effected by air pressure "cut off" when it is given a bunch of air pressure? it may run out of "breath" at 5k rpm, but it will still spin.

you said it yourself, IT NEEDS TO BE TUNED. z6 intake is fine unless youre >500hp. what injectors does it have?

youre going to swap it anyway, so why not return it to stock and sell the parts to fund another build?

What kind of cars does he usually specialise in? Sounds like an odd recommendation to make, especially when it sounds like your build has much important items that are required that will prevent it from running correctly. Your OEM intake will be fine.

If i got that advice, i'd probably seek out another tuner.

My dad does body work and has all the stuff required to fix that. I just needed to find the doors, which luckily I did. I found both for 80$ and a friend of mine is selling me his new fuel pump he bought before wrecking his eg6 for 75$.
I think so far the money I am putting into making it run good and look somewhat better is decently low.. well lower then I would have paid if I didn't have a few helpful friends.
On to injectors and then the tune.

(and lowering.. this thing is a monster truck at stock height.)

P.S. You guys were right about the manifold. The other tuners I talked to said I definitely don't need a new one. It is just preference. So you guys saved me there! Thanks!!

Did you get a fuel pump with a higher flow rate? Or just new OEM?

There's a lot of variables, but there's a very good chance you need one with a higher flow rate than OEM specs.

why pay $75 for a used pump when around that price range you can get a brand new walbro 190, 255, or 255HP pump?

Review your options. One of teh hard things about building a honda, too many freaking goddamn options to go with!

It is new. He never got the chance to use it.

I have noticed how many options there are haha it is nice though cause I sold my Saab for this Honda and the Saab has like one option for anything and they are way to expensive.

Hell yeah, that's my favorite shape. Looks tidy. Do they have any common issues? I don't see many on the roads anymore.
I am in Colorado springs and I have only seen 2 other ones . One in my city and one in Denver. My biggest issue was my exhaust rusted completely and it was 1200 for a new one that wasn't total shit. Then my pressure hoses for my intercooler kept splitting and those are 18 a set. I gave up on it cause I lost boost about 4 months ago again cause the hoses split again. Bought the car for 500 then dumped almost 3k into it within a year and not even to performance.

The most common issue is rust and then electrical issues light my dash lights were like going to a rave sometimes and I constantly blew fuses if I used my wipers. The only Saab shop nearby wanted almost 200 an hour just to diagnose my car.

I loved it to death but I missed my old Honda eg6 and seen the one I just bought for sale and decided to go for it. No matter what I need to do to the thing at least I know 3k would go very far in a Honda haha

Ah, sounds like typical euro gremlins. I wonder why they could never get their electrics to be reliable.
