Anyone have tips on removing the crank pulley with the engine out of the car? I know the bolt`s torqued down pretty tight...anyone else have trouble?

thanks
put the engine on a stand, and brace the crankshaft on the transmission side with a wrench (not the crank itself, but the drive plate or flywheel)

Long handled wrench will get it off, or an impact wrench

perfect time to buy a air compressor and a good 1/2 inch impact gun.

We had a hell of a time gettin mine off. we had a cheap air compressor with a good gun and couldn't get it off. So we took it to an auto shop. They have a that 100 dollar special tool to hold the crank in place. 3 Impact guns later we got it off. The gun they used looked like something out of a Terminator 2. So if yours is anywhere near as torqued as mine, GOOD LUCK

If you're doing it by hand, use steady pressure on the breaker bar. It works better than bouncing on it. (You'll just end up breaking something.) When I did mine, the engine was still in the car, but I had someone stick a screwdriver in the flywheel teeth while the pulley bolt was torqued with a 1/2" socket breaker bar. You could always try some WD-40... just don't get it on the pulley itself.

If a good 1/2 impact can't get it off, then you can bet that corrosion is the culprit (or bad threads), not the torque of the bolt.
To prevent this the NEXT time, use a good antiseeze compound when reinstalling it. Torque to the spec of 134 ftlbs. It will come right off next time.

To get it off use some liquid wrench and tap the bolt a couple times with a soft mallet that should loosen it up a little.

Yea.. this is a very common thing... All Honda SOHC engines are notorius
for this... there is a special tool that is octagon shaped that fits over the
the front of the crank pulley holding it in place while you break the bolt loose... don't mess your wrist up when It finally gives...
It's not really a good idea to hold the flywheel teeth with a screwdriver..
you can do some damage that way...

Good luck to anyone else with this problem.

mine was a bitch to get off too, I bought a new bolt, and honda must have changed the bolt, because there is a different set of torque specs in the package when you buy the bolt

Get a .5in x 2in x long enough to touch ground piece of steel (I sandwiched 3 of these strips). Get a 1.5 inch bolt....umm 3/8 thick and an appropriate nut (to fit in the holes in ur pulley). Drill hole in metal strip, insert bolt. Stick the bolt in one of the holes and get a good 1/2 breaker bar with a cheater pipe. As you turn the wrench will brace against the bar and the bar will press against the ground.

I did this with the motor IN the car. I braced the bar against the cross member the ground should act in the same way.

Oh and as far as using a 1/2 impact gun.... I have an OK one 450lbs/ft and its friggin useless verse the crank pulley bolt. 450 vs my 140lbs x 8foot cheater bar. Guess who wins.

I actually went out and bought a compressor and impact gun to get mine off. Even that didn't work. So out of desperation I used some PB blaster(basicly liquid wrench).
It came off with a ratchet. Almost broke my arm it was so loose.
