does anybody on here know the exact bore diameter of the crank bore code stamps that are on the back of d series blocks where the tranny bolts up?I know they are used in conjunction with stamped codes on the crank to let you know what color bearings to use...but I'd like to know what the 'C' or 'B' on the block stamps is as far as bore size.

BC = IDBT – ODC – (2 x BT)

BC = bearing clearance
IDBT = inside diameter of bearing tunnel (housing bore)
ODC = outside diameter of crank journal
BT = bearing thickness

Main Bearing thickness by color
Blue 2.013-2.010 mm 0.0793”- 0.0791”
Black 2.010-2.007 mm 0.0791”- 0.0790”
Brown 2.007-2.004 mm 0.0790”- 0.0789”
Green 2.004-2.001 mm 0.0789”- 0.0788”
Yellow 2.001-1.998 mm 0.0788”- 0.0787”
Pink 1.998-1.995 mm 0.0787”- 0.0785”
Red 1.995-1.992 mm 0.0785”- 0.0783”

Rod bearing thickness by color
Blue 1.510-1.507 mm 0.0594”- 0.0593”
Black 1.507-1.504 mm 0.0593”- 0.0592”
Brown 1.504-1.501 mm 0.0592”- 0.0591”
Green 1.501-1.498 mm 0.0591”- 0.0590”

no, I've got that info, but I just thought it would be easier if Honda already had it figured out and each letter stamped meant that the corresponding crank bore was a certain exact size...then I could subtract the bearing thickness, the crank journal thickness and get my oil clearance....guess I'll have to try and remember how to read that damn dial bore gauge again...lol

Main bearing outer diameter = 2.3228"

Rod bearing outer diameter = 1.8898"

Mic a bearing and multiply it by two to get total bearing thickness. Then subtract.

okay, going by what's stamped on the block and crank my no 1 main bearing should be a green(.0788 )Now, I mic'd the no 1 crank journal out at 2.1648", so with that math we get the following .0788 x 2 (.1576) + 2.1648 = 2.3224 and if the outer bearing diameter is 2.3228 then I would only have an oil clearance of .0004 with the green bearing that the code calls for...obvioulsy waaay too tight, so fuck the codes..lol

That why OEM bearings are cool. Mix and match to get your "perfect" clearance!

yeah, guess I'm gonna have to go through and figure it out, can't really go on just the plastigauge like I thought I might get lucky with the std acl's....lol NOT

hey leshok, how did you measure the OD of the bearings? Or should I ask, what bearing catalogue did you get that measurement from? I've been trying to measure my acl's, but don't come up with the 2.3228". I have a feeling that the bearings aren't a 'perfect' circle until they are torqued in the tunnel...so I'm gonna have to dial bore gauge the tunnels without the bearings in and torqued I guess...
